Look, this is just stupid.
It is ignorant and incorrect
to say “ new-cue-lur”
Kind of like saying “ ax” for ask.

The word comes from nucleus.
Figure it out. It is not a colloquialism. Look that up.

What are you talking about ?
Your post is utterly incoherent.
The Northern way ? There is one
correct way to pronounce the word
and she did not use it.
Incidentally, I live in the south.
And I like Sarah Palin.
However unlike some of the people here,
I do not consider her a demi-god.

Regional accent? LOL!

You mean those snooty Northeasterners aren’t smart enough or capable of overcoming their ‘accent’?

Don’t eat that, ‘cuz that’s so much bullshit. THEY think they are delivering that accent because it is the langauge of God himself. Watch John Kerry sometime.

All the while wallowing in pride of their broken Enlish.

Look Bain, why is it OK for New Englanders and Brits and Midwesterners to mispronounce words? HMMMM?

If you are going to bust one you have to bust them all for not pronouncing words correctly. If one is ignorant for not pronounce a word the correct way, then others are too who do not pronounce words correctly. You have no leg to stand on.

As a student of linguistics, I can tell you that many words have become a part of English vocabulary which originally were not “real” words, but became the more often used version of the word or became an altogether new word because of their popularity. This is an undeniable fact.

I heard a lawyer/teacher use the non-word “preventative” instead of the correct word, “preventive”. He became agitated when one of his students corrected him and then very embarassed when the dictionary supported the student. HOWEVER, he took refuge in the dictionary’s “ALTERNATE PRONUNCIATION” which was the one he had been using.

Language changes with time and usage and there is no disputing that fact. Sarah is an excellent communicator and people understand very well what she says and means unlike the Great Teleprompter Reader who uses language to obfuscate.

This is all just stupid.
Palin mispronounces a word
and you all have to go on a jihad
against people in different states.
Grow up.

Who really considers her a Demi God? Not a Demi God, just the most effective public condervative we have had in a long time. She is the one person giving the WH (proven yesterday with the nuclear flap) the sweats. And she drives the moonbat left absolutely crazy, I see it first hand every time her name comes up.

Well, Rad, I never said anything that could be construed
as defending incorrect pronunciation. Your post is
juvenile.
The word has been mispronounced by ( among others) Jimmy
Carter, GW Bush, and now Palin.
What is so hard about admitting this.
You all remind me of junior high students with your
intransigence.

I find it interesting that some ladies posted endless suggestions yesterday on how Palin should adjust her make-up, trim her bangs and stay with “cool colors” so as to improve her presentation and when I say she should correct
her mispronunciation of a word all hell breaks loose.
Something is really off in some Palin supporters.

My point is that some of her fans become rabid when ANY
comment or criticism is made. This is not going to help
her and quite frankly I imagine she would be chagrined
by this ungracious behavior.

Hey Bain, let us say for sake of discussion, DID Palin mispronounce a word. Who is winning the flap between her and BO? Obviously, BO is afraid she is.

BO gets all wee-weed up at the least thing she says and actually adds to her stature by making stupid contradictory remarks, e.g., when BO said he would not comment concerning Sarah’s remark about the school yard kid saying “Smack me in the face and I won’t do anything to you.” He then proceeded to comment on Sarah having no “nuclear experience”. He led with his chin on that foolish remark and Sarah gave him a verbal left hook that put him on the ground, i. e., Obama must have got a lot of nuclear experience, as a “ community organizer, part-time Senator and full-time candidate.” BHAHAHAHA. Reminds me of a bumper sticker: “My C student-daughter beats the daylights out of your A student-son.”

Oh Bain, BTW, since you are so wont to issue a fatwa on Sarah for stupidity, improper enunication and ignorance, your Jihadness is obligated to issue one on BO for repeatedly calling a corpsman (that’s a medic to all you Ivy league elites), a CORPSE man (which is a dead guy for all you Columbia Law School grads). What a doofus!

We are a bit of a rabid bunch in some ways. I think though that this the kind of fan base any winning candidate will need against Obama... who certainly has one of his own. Cheers, have a good weekend.

One of the best, if not , the best speech Sarah has made. She was totally comfortable and knocked Obama down to size without fear.

I can't imagine any other GOP-er doing what she is doing now. That is why she will be President No. 45.

At Conservatives 4 Palin, I like what C. Brooks Lutz said:

With every appearance and utterance, Gov. Palin is strengthening her foothold in the soil of smart power. Her speech today at the SRLC continued a running theme she’s mined, one with wealthy results: Pres. Obama is a weak man, and he is with every action domestic and foreign, economic and political, weakening a strong nation.

The recent kerfuffle regarding George Stephanopoulos asking Pres. Obama about what the former Governor of Alaska had to say about his nuclear treaty is telling: while much has been made of the question and Pres. Obama’s answer, a subtle power-shift occurred.

Pres. Obama broke the first rule of smart political power: a leader never publicly dismisses an opponent who has no power. It advertises a thin-skin, a small world view and – dangerously – opens up one’s flank for unnecessary attack. I’d add that it shows, yet again, he’s paranoid, which is rather creepy. Gov. Palin can draw a crowd, and she’s sold a lot of books. However, she has no government-backed power; to respond to a question about what she said by including her, by name (thrice) is not only poor judgment, it’s petty. For a guy we’re repeatedly told is so intelligent, cool and well-educated, it’s difficult for me to not conclude he’s, well, not.

Obama got pwned by Sarah--big time.

Gee, all at once you seem defensive. We’re not the ones who brought this up.

This isn’t about Palin pronouncing nuclear the same way GWB does, this is about the snootiness of a whole bunch of people, Northeasterners in particular, who project their inability to speak clearly and correctly on those they don’t like.

I agree with everything you said, ( you could simply have
left out the ungracious “for the sake of discussion”.)

I take it that this post is acknowledging that the pronunciation of nuclear that she used was incorrect ?

Like I said, this is something of an overreaction by
some who like Palin and an unwillingness to simply
accept that she made an error and it might serve her well
to fix it.

I think maybe you ( guys?) have wild crushes on this lady.

Oh, really ?
You overreact and paint with a broad brush.
She mispronounces a word that is regularly used
in her “line of work”. She ought to fix it.
I bet someone will get to her and she will.
It is that simple.

I see you’ve been getting a well deserved ass whoopen.

There are several things all wrapped up in this ‘nuclear’ reaction; my earlier mention of disgust at (primarily) Liberal’s inability to pronounce some of easiest words in the English language and considering it a gift from God, and our loyalty to Palin against what are normally Liberal attacks.

She may change the way she pronounces it, but I’m doubtful. Because these criticisms have come primarily from Liberals, over the past five or ten years it has become a badge of honor, and one doesn’t discard those lightly.

It is very juvenile to do things incorrectly
because someone that you do not like has pointed
it out.
That appears to be the way you operate.
Oh well.
I actually have higher hopes for Mrs. Palin.
