Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a potential presidential candidate in 2012, called Barack Obama on Thursday "the most radical president in American history" who oversees a "secular, socialist machine."
Gingrich reminded conservative activists why he was one of the nation's most polarizing leaders in the 1990s, opening the Southern Republican Leadership Conference with a biting assessment of Obama's policies.
"The most radical president in American history has now thrown down the gauntlet to the American people: 'I run a machine. I own Washington and there's nothing you can do about it,"' Gingrich said. He urged his fellow Republicans to stop what he called Obama's "secular, socialist machine.
Highly charged words, for sure. But that's standard fare at the three-day GOP gathering that is drawing several presidential hopefuls. Friday's headliner is former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Throw out Steele and put Newt in charge!
I used to think that Gingrich could never win the GOP nomination because the mainstream media hates him so much.
I’m not sure that’s a disadvantage anymore...the MSM is now in such bad odor as an Obama propaganda machine their hatred might work to his advantage.
Go Newt!
obammy is garbage.
Its so refreshing to hear the truth spoken.
And so satisfying knowing that when the truth speaks there are those that cringe in fear.
Or run from it.
It is troubling that so many Americans don’t see this trailer park trash for what he is (no insult intended to trailers or folks who live in them—just an old and apt cliche in this case)
...and the sky is blue!
Omg... it is? Really?
I’m not saying that he wouldn’t be great in a presidential debate, he’d cut the Obambalator to ribbons, but I don’t think he is electable. Be a great VP though. No, I want Steele out. He is not pulling together the troops for a victory in Nov. We need a leader NOW at the RNC!
“Gingrich reminded conservative activists why he was one of the nation’s most polarizing leaders in the 1990s,...”
AP made it all the way to the second sentence before it began to editorialize and bash Newt. Rest assured that like the Rotweilers in “The Omen” the media will do everything they can to protect their master.
In that same vein, lies (so abundantly spewed by our president) are oppressive and imprisoning...but the Truth will set us free!
By 2012 a Kangaroo would be more electable than Obama.
Nope, he was my congressman and he let us down. I simply don’t want him and will not vote for him, period.
Oh, come on, he isn’t quite as radical as Vladamir Lenin, or Hugo Chavez. Oh, he meant American Presidents.....
Don’t know if I could either, but, he’d be great for the RNC!!
A little late to the Party there Newt. What took you so long?
Newt is one of the most, if not the most, brillant minds the Republican party has to offer.
Yes, the media hates him, and would put forth a daily barage of trash against him. But as I look across the Republican talent that’s likely to emerge for a presidential run, Newt (at this time) has the most experinece, strength, knowledge, insight, will, passion, confidence and intellect to do the job.
Frankly I’m terrified from my Country. And I’m terrified that the RNC will get behind a weak Rino.
Welcome Newt; dessert is just now being served.
