Where the Tea Partiers Should Go From Here (by Karl Rove in the WSJ)
Wall Street Journal ^ | Apr. 1, 2010 | Karl Rove

Posted on 04/04/2010 1:29:56 PM PDT by SmartInsight

Democrats are attacking the tea party movement because it is a new force that's bringing millions of here-to-fore unengaged Democrats, independents and Republicans into the political arena. If there's something a ruling party doesn't like, it's a new political player converting spectators into participants.

To maintain their influence, tea partiers will have to maintain their current energy and concern over health care and federal spending.

But tea partiers will have to do more than surf discontent with the Obama administration's policies. They will also have to coalesce around a positive agenda.

The unhinged quality of the White House and the DNC attacks show that they understand how much the tea party movement can affect this year's elections. Now is the time for the movement to ensure its energy - and influence - stay high.

Exactly! This whole gop vs dem pick sides nonsense is ridiculous. Both parties are nearly the same, its just one marginally is better than the other.

We need to tell the roves mccains grahams et al to go away and sthu forever with the mess they have made of the gop.

As for gwb he did the right thing after 911 but other than alito and roberts he was a miserable failure and an economic disaster. Yes the communist demcrats are ten times worse but I a$ sick of being asked to pick the better of two horrible parties.

Nobody is suggesting to take policy advice from Rove.

But he IS a great strategist and it’s high time for conservatives to stop knee jerk reactions that takes us nowhere, except more entranched Dem majority, and focus on a strategy to DEFEAT the DEMOCRATs.

I’m just saying that it’s terrible marketing to be satisfied with a name that is so easily twisted into a homosexually erotic act.

That’s just the way it is. It didn’t matter if, for example, Dan Quayle was a competent or even excellent politician. Once the public decided he was an empty-headed child, there was nothing he could do to put that genie back in the bottle. Once the public decides that the Tea Party is better-named “Tea Baggers”, the ability to market it to the general public becomes insanely difficult. Why ? Because people are generally that stupid and immature.

“the truth is if we dont try to forget the past mistakes and focus on the future , we will be stuck as the permament minority”

Well said!

And yes, I think there are trolls around, pretending to be conservatives, who are doing the Dems bidding, who know that “divide and conquer” is the only thing that may help them in November.

“...But he IS a great strategist.”

For the left. You haven’t been listening. He operated the party left of center. Yes, a good strategist for the left.

Karl Rove explained the rationale behind the president’s amnesty/open-borders proposal this way: “I don’t want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas.”

That is obscene. It's just another way of saying "I don't care if your kids have entry level job opportunities as long as they're not working next to those dirty migrants."

That's not the way it is. The way it is is that the libs will smear Republicans and conservatives no matter what. The last fifty years of politics, at least, should be proof of that.

It didn’t matter if, for example, Dan Quayle was a competent or even excellent politician. Once the public decided he was an empty-headed child, there was nothing he could do to put that genie back in the bottle.

Thank you for making my point.

Once the public decides that the Tea Party is better-named “Tea Baggers”, the ability to market it to the general public becomes insanely difficult.

The Tea Party movement doesn't need to be marketed. It isn't a political party. It grew by leaps and bounds without any marketing at all. Why? Because people are fed up and the TPM is a vehicle to express it.

YES, YES YES.

I want control of congress OUT OF THE HANDS OF THE MARXISTS.

The REAL ends -- taking back our congress -- justifies EVEN the McCain/Snowe/Collins means.

Why is it so hard for our side to really SEE what is happening in this country??? The damn house is burning and we are fiddling w/ furniture arrangement in the family room. We have to stop and grow up. I am so sick of this.

That is utterly ridiuclous.

The American ppl were stupid enough to elect a Marxist.

And that has nothing to do with Rove.

Rove, you magnificent bastard!

Your alleged magnificence is what cost the GOP majorities in both the House and Senate in 2006, and your failure to push your former boss into attacking the current 0bamunist-In-Chief during the election of '08 (combined with the failure of McStain to take the fight to the enemy), is why America has been all but collectivized by those goddamned Communist radicals!

STFU Rove!

The tea baggers are still getting enormous crowds. So apparently you don’t have a clue.

Karl Rove is a legend in his own mind. He almost lost the 2004 race against Kerry. The Swift Boat vets saved his bacon. Rove lost Rep control of Congress, part of it attributable to his support of massive government spending and for amnesty, which divided the GOP to this day. His judgment is lousy. He and Dick Morris and the rest of these gun for hire political consultants should go jump in the lake.

If Bush had controlled the agenda, or at least fought to a standstill; and endorsed a conservative...

Obama would have been CREAMED.

Think of Bush '41, against Clinton. At the last minute during the campaign, he managed to stutter out a "wouldn't be...prudent."

And lost big to President Lewinsky.

His son did the same in favor of Obama.

Eastern establishment RINOs to the core, depsite the "Texas" veneer.

Tho' with one exception -- it appears Dubya *is* truly humble and compassionate in private.

Too bad he never showed as many balls in fighting Dems as he did in fighting jihadists.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

The whole premise of your way of thinking is wrong. Tea Party guns should be pointed IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY at this moment and NEVER LOOSE SIGHT OF THE REAL ENEMY and that is the obama gang of thugs that have taken over power of this country. The biggest gift we can give to the critters is just what we are doing here on this thread. squabbling amongst ourselves and labeling each other “rinos” and enemies. It is so simple and yet so hard to reach, this unity of purpose our side desperately needs at this time. I am scared stiff for our country. I don’t want to fight you. I need you to join me and every other left, right and center, who has awakened to what is happening here, to fight together to save our country from its enemies.

All you can do is vote republican. But that’s not going to save anything. Republicans are only slightly better than the democrats. We’ll still end up the same place...it’ll just take a little longer to get there. Your country is already gone. Might as well start figuring out how to live with that fact.

Our country is NOT gone. I refuse to accept that. I am fighting and talking/speaking/teaching my family/friends/neighbors/colleagues/coworkers and donating time and money and I KNOW WE CAN AND WE WILL WIN THIS NOVEMBER and in two more years time obummer will be history.

There is not one iota of doubt in my mind that we will win in November, WITH ONE BIG EXCEPTION and that is if the rat/Marxists succeed in dividing our right flank.

Our nation has marched steadily to the left ever since the Constitution was approved. Democrat or Republican. It doesn’t really matter. We move left. Faster when the Democrats in control to be sure but just as certainly even when the Republicans are in the majority. I am hearing nothing from the current batch of “we move to the left slower than the democrats!” GOP that would make me choose to support any of them.
