Easily cut the legs out from under a horse.

Which, as I recall, was one of the original purposes of the design, to stop a charging knight's destrier, which was approximately the size of an Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale (so folks get the idea that when we're speaking of a "horse" we aren't speaking of a Quarter Horse, Arabian, or the like...)
