NAIROBI, Kenya - U.S. naval forces say they've captured five pirates after exchanging fire with them, sinking their skiff and confiscating a mother ship.

The USS Nicholas came under fire early Thursday from pirates in an area west of the Seychelles.

The U.S. Africa Command said the five pirates seized would remain in U.S. custody on board the frigate for time being. The Nicholas is home-ported in Norfolk, Va.

International naval forces have stepped up their enforcement of the waters off East Africa in an effort to thwart a growing pirate trade.

Experts say piracy will continue to be a problem until an effective government is established on Somalia's lawless shores. The country has not had a functioning government for 19 years.

Not to worry, the Idiot atty General Holder, has filed the petition for the trials to take place in U.S.Civilian Courts for interfering with pirate operations.

We need better ships. A battleship would not capture pirates after an exchange of gunfire.

The yardarm is also that which is watched closely for the sun’s position relative to said yardarm in order to determine the appropriate time at which to imbibe adult beverages.

One could also include “Never bring a pirate skiff, or even a mothership, to a Frigate fight”.

I think all the MK13 point and shoot launchers have been removed from the FFG 7 class ships.

Leaves them w/ an Oto Melara MK76 and the Phalanx gun.

Good enough for shooting priates, I’d say.

“I’m a traditionalist, myself, when it comes to pirates, horse theives, and traitors.”

Me too! Something like BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG sounds about right. I also like the “chum the waters” idea that another poster suggested.

“Sorry, no pics of the skiff or mother ship...” Too funny!

You’ll need your diving gear and waterproof camera to get the skiff pic.

Correct, a yardarm is also used by naval personnel to determine an important daily epoch in local apparent solar time.

I was able to 'capture' a couple of pics of several of the pirates from an obscure website:

I don’t care if you’re a starving Somali pirate...how much of a total dumbass do you have to be to take potshots at a heavily-armed FFG? The correct Somali pirate response in the Age of Obama is to let yourself be boarded and captured and then claim Miranda rights while screaming “racism” at the nearest TV camera, durp durp!

"Experts say piracy will continue to be a problem until an effective government is established on Somalia's lawless shores."

The problem of piracy in the area would quickly end if the US and other nations would have a sink on sight policy for any unidentified vessels in these areas and allow merchant vessels to be armed for self defense.

"The USS Nicholas came under fire early Thursday from pirates"

In land-terms, that's a bit like shooting an M1A1 with a Daisy BB Gun.

Why don’t they just S,S,S (shoot, sink, shut up)? Now some lefty scum in our (in)justice department will get the pirates a lawyer!

Where else are they gonna get hot meals, warm beds and medical attention? There’s nothing like that for 1000 miles.
