Reid touts NRA tie, reaches out to activists as Tea Partiers rally

As thousands of Tea Party activists rally in his hometown of Searchlight, Nevada, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is burnishing his Second Amendment credentials.

Reid’s re-election campaign describes National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre as "one of the senator’s supporters." The two are at a $60 million Clark County shooting park which, according to the Reid campaign, wouldn't have opened without the senator’s help.

In a statement to CNN regarding Saturday’s Tea Party rally in his hometown, the Senate’s top Democrat said: "I'm happy so many people came to see my hometown of Searchlight and spend their out-of-state money especially in these tough economic times. Ultimately though this election will be decided by Nevadans, not people from other states who parachute in for one day to have a tea party."

Reid’s camp is trying to welcome the Tea Partiers. The Nevada State Democratic Party and the Reid campaign have set up a hospitality tent not far from the Tea Party rally site. "We are serving Tea and donut holes in recognition that Senator Reid just passed health care reform

Yep, the NRA needs to broaden it's assessment of what is important about who they support. We have a bunch of RINOs with a high NRA rating who will help the Dems consolidate power and then stab us and the NRA in the back. Stupak should have given them more than a clue.

Look for a very conservative, tea-partying Sen ReidMcCain from now until November!

Also fits.

"$60 million for a shooting range? SIXTY MILLION??? Complimentary valet parking and hookers, I hope."

I can drive a few short miles into the Nevada desert and shoot all I want. It only costs a little bit of gas. And I pay for that. Harry Reid is lying dirty little snake.

Planned Parenthood and the National Education Association have anti-GUN views and policies. There are many orgs that get govt funding and such that do more than one thing.

Does anyone think the NPR is pro-gun? I bet Harry loves funding it despite all the anti-gun propaganda. Should public housing residents have 2nd amend rights??

plus other anti-gun politicians he helps get elected

I agree, but a single interest group is not a voter. Planned Parenthood, the NEA, and NPR are not single interest groups, they are parts of a fascist conspiracy.

Do you have any idea the land and liability cost for a rifle range? That’s about right.

The NRA supports Harry Reid? You’ve got to be kidding me. Who’s side are they on?

“The NRA supports Harry Reid? You’ve got to be kidding me. Who’s side are they on?”

They have a very narrow focus. If the Dem votes their way enough to get their “A” rating, they back the incumbent. If both incumbent and challenger have “A” ratings, they back the incumbent. They don’t want to be seen as a Republican organization.

Reid supports anti-2nd amendment judicial appointments. How exactly does that help their agenda?

” How exactly does that help their agenda?”

Republicans have supported anti-2A justices too. They limit it to actual legislation. I’m not defending Reid, just explaining why the NRA does this.

I’ve got a stainless 3” barreled Judge chambered for 2-3/4”. It’s a fantastic little gun. Great anti-carjacking / snake gun.

Very simply, this is nonsense.

The NRA rates politicians on how they vote on gun rights not on some possible later actions which they might engage in. The NRA is not the GOP and it is not a purely conservative organization. They are single issue and to follow nonsense like you and others propose would remove their focus and their ability to accomplish what they do.

It’s OK to get on the case of the GOP for endorsing RINOs but if that RINO has always voted against gun control, then the NRA is only rational to support them. If you don’t support what they do, which is protecting the Second Amendment and promoting shooting sports, then don’t support the NRA. If you expect them to be something other than what their charter entails because you want them to live up to your theories and politics, well don’t hold your breath.

I’m an NRA Life Member and it is certainly true that they endorse politicians whom I despise. However I accept why they do it.

Let’s put it this way- if the NRA didn’t work the way it does, do you think there would be a single Democrat stopping gun control measures that Holder (and the big O) would love to see? If they were simply an adjunct of the GOP and didn’t consistently stick to their issue they would be marginalized and the largest Democratic majority in quite a while would have rammed plenty of gun control down our craws.

However because the NRA is plenty smarter about this than many who have posted here, even Pelosi, who hates guns with a passion won’t even entertain bringing up gun control legislation on the floor of the House.

"Reid’s camp is trying to welcome the Tea Partiers."

Reid's camp?

Er...harry...ONE PERSON does NOT a CAMP make...

The guy was not even from Searchlight, harry bused him in. So harry, if Searchlight is YOUR hometown, why weren't you there IN PERSON to "welcome the Tea Partiers"?

You cowardly little pisswad...you don't want to be near anyone you can't buy off, right?
