You know, back before everyone and their dog had health insurance, my regular doctor’s visit cost what my co-pay does now. I think the dirty little secret is that insurance has driven up costs.

I think the dirty little secret is that insurance has driven up costs.

Just as Pell Grants and School loans have drove up college costs.

I took my older dog to the vet this morning without an appointment or insurance. Cost $140 total.

I discovered that she has leukemia and that I could get chemotherapy for her but the prognosis isn’t good. So I play death panel and decided I’ll keep her comfortable for as long as I can.

It's not a secret among those who have a fundamental understanding of economics. It's easy to prove. Think about it. Is there any medical procedures which have actually gone down in price? Most would say not but there is. It's lasik eye surgery. It's come down in price because insurance doesn't cover it. Also many types of cosmetic surgery have come down in price as again insurance doesn't cover it. I guarantee that these procedures would not have decreased if insurance covered them.

Managed care has driven costs up. The new DemoncRAT’s most-managed-of-care will drive prices out the roof.

“I think the dirty little secret is that insurance has driven up costs.”

You’re almost right. What’s driven up costs are the effects of Government telling Insurance companies what they can and can’t do and what they MUST do (i.e., mandates). Insurance companies are not charities; they have shareholders who expect dividends from profits. It’s called Free Enterprise as opposed to what Obama wants (communism).

Yeah, so what do those brainiacs in Washington do about it? Why mandate it for EVERYONE! That'll fix it.

I think you’re correct.

“...back before everyone and their dog had health insurance, my regular doctor’s visit cost what my co-pay does now...”

Right. Just get the gov out. There is so much corruption, skiming, cheating. The more parties involved the more anything costs. After all those clerks have to get paid to check those boxes.

You’ve got:
the doc’s clerks
the insurance company’s clerks
the fed gov clerks
the state gov clerks
the employers’ clerks
the union clerks
the hospital’s clerks
all out-sourced medical providers
x-ray clerks
speciman test clerks
(others I can’t think of right now)

Insurance should be for major medical: operations, serious illness, accidents.

Preventive, minor medical, cosmetic or elective should be out-of-pocket.

For the destitude or rare medical conditions there are charities for which the USA has been generous.

If you subsidize the service, the cost will increase.
Each. And. Every. Time.

Take a look at children’s cereal. Do you really think an 11 oz box of sugar coated poison would cost $5 if WIC didn’t pick up the cost 100%? It doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.
