I took my older dog to the vet this morning without an appointment or insurance. Cost $140 total.
I discovered that she has leukemia and that I could get chemotherapy for her but the prognosis isn’t good. So I play death panel and decided I’ll keep her comfortable for as long as I can.
I’m sorry to hear that. It’s how it always ends, but it’s always difficult.
Similar story here, except that the vet didn’t find out what is wrong with my cat, and an MRI will cost thousands.
I love the little guy, but...
Maybe pet owners should be agitating for socialized vet care next, imagining that it will cover everything under the sun, until they’re hit with the stark reality that bureaucrats in DC care far less for your or your pet’s health than you, and are far less likely to okay forking over the money for treatment.
I’m really sorry to hear that, but you did make the right decision. You’d be surprised how well they do, almost up to the end. Just watch her eyes so you know when she’s in pain, they are so stoic that’s the big thing you have to worry about.
I’m so sorry. I’ve had to make a similar decision with a pet of mine who needed a new kidney. I have sent a prayer for you.
I’m sorry to hear the bad news about your doggie. -Sigh-
Sorry to hear about your dog, cc. We’ve posted before about Jack Russell terriers. They sure as heck steal your heart. My little guy just turned six.
Sounds like you have a good and fair vet. Seems it’s around $300 whenever there’s a problem with my two. Heck, they wanted $400 to clean the jack’s teeth with the anesthesia. Sorry, I’ve never had a dog’s teeth cleaned. Maybe 0bama can include that in his ‘health care reform.’/s
Blessings and comfort for your sick pup. It’s tough, I know.

I am truly sorry to hear about your dog. I had have my little dog put to sleep this morning and I have cried all day. He was almost 15 years old, deaf, almost blind, nerar crippled with arthritis and just seemed to be in pain all the time. I got him as a puppy and we’ve been through a lot together. I will miss him dearly.(Jim’s wife)
I am truly sorry to hear that, neighbor.
Long ago, and far away, on one of those dead worlds trailing behind me, I hunted men with this old boy:
Then he got canine leukemia.
Looking back, I wish I had put him to sleep, and spared him the suffering he endured.
Mind you, I'm not saying that's what you should do- only you can decide.
I just wish I'd given my partner mercy, while he was still somewhat able to enjoy life- it's a hard disease.
So sorry to hear. It’s such a heartbreaking thing to endure. We lost our dog of 11 years two years ago in similar circumstances.
Losing a pet is one of the toughest things in the world. My prayers are with you.
