Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak's (D) distinction as the man who secured passage of health care reform for Democrats could make him a national target of Republican and conservative interests. He now has a Republican challenger, who in about 24 hours since Stupak cut a deal with the White House -- giving Democrats the necessary number of votes -- has gotten a lot more well known. Dan Benishek, a surgeon who announced his candidacy one week ago, went from about 3,500 Facebook friends Sunday afternoon to 14,500 by mid-Monday. Benishek has also received mentions from a few well-known conservative bloggers, including Michelle Malkin who linked to his makeshift campaign Web site.

He had about 1600 friends when I joined during Stupak’s conference. He had around 200 friends Sunday morning.
I just saw stupidpak on msnbc. Instead of apologizing for breaking his promise and taking a bribe for his vote, he was crying about how some evil Republican called him a baby killer.

I first got on yesterday he had about 1100, and he put up another 400 in under 10 minutes....I finally joined about two this morning, and it was around 12000.....sent him a little cash after he got the paypal thing going....lots of docs and nurses signing up...I guess just feeling like they can 'stick it and break one off' in Stupak...

Yeah, me too. I joined right after Stupak made his announcement. Watched the group grow all night and early into the morning. People are angry. I don’t think it’s going to go away by November. Mostly because the morons in Washington are not going to stop here-—no amnesty and cap and tax are up to bat next.
