Opinion: Health Care Bill: Bart Stupak 'Limits the Harm'
Catholic Online ^ | 3/21/10 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Posted on 03/21/2010 4:06:43 PM PDT by tcg

...what has been clear throughout this extraordinary historic debate was that Congressman Bart Stupak was a faithful Catholic and a faithful Pro-Life DEMOCRATIC Congressman who refused to compromise on the first priniciples.

He has always supported the Health Care Reform package. He is, after all, a Democrat. He simply refused to compromise on the fundamental human rights issue of our age, the Right to Life. For that, he should be honored and thanked by all Pro-Life people.Even if he is wrong.

I was not surprised when he made his announcement. He was surrounded by other Pro-Life Democrats who had made the same decision with him.

He spoke of the "greement we have been able to reach" with the President. That agreement entails the issuing of what he called an "extensive" Executive order by the President immediately upon the passage of this legislation. He honestly believes that with this Executive Order, the current Hyde Amendment language will be protected in the law. He is confident that this Executive Order will ensure that the fatal flaw with this legislation, clearly set forth by the US Bishops, which undermined the fundamental Human Right to Life, will be cured. As a Constitutional lawyer, I strongly doubt it. Though I live in Virginia, I am, to use the old adage I'm from Missouri, show me!

I do not agree with this legislation for many important procedural, constitutional and substantive reasons. However, the first and fundamental reason I opposed it was that it DID indeed open up Federal funds for the killing of innocent children. If it did not, why is the President of the United States signing an Executive Order to cure the Bill?

put a monkey in a silk suit and all you have is a monkey wearing a suit, Stupak sold out his principles and the rest of America as well no matter the flowerly language.

At the end of the day, taxpayer’s funds will pay for abortions, and there will be more abortions, Planned Parenthood supported this effort for a reason.

Stop delluding yourself.

A faithful Catholic would have voted NO on the bill.

Andy McCarthy on NRO said it quite well:

"(T)his anti-abortion EO is blatant chicanery: if the pro-lifers purport to be satisfied by it, they are participating in a transparent fraud and selling out the pro-life cause."

Congressman Bart Stupak is a faithful Catholic. He is also wrong.Congressman Bart Stupak has at least “limited the harm” done by this Legislation. He has “lessened its negative consequences”. He has acted in a faithful way as a faithful Catholic Christian in public life. For that he should be commended. Even if, like me, you disagree with his ultimate decision.”

Your type of thinking is why I AM NOT CATHOLIC ANYMORE!

Luke 4:5-8 (King James Version):

4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

4:7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

He is a liar and traitor who was looking for any way he could to cover himself while voting for the Bill.

The original House Bill would not have passed without that Amendment and yet now he is willing to sign onto to Bill without it's protections.

There’s actually a FReeper who suggested sending money to no-voting RATs as a show of gratitude. Can you believe it?

Saw that. Made me want to puke. "Please sir, may I have some more?"

He has done NOTHING. The way to limit harm is to defeat this facist legislation.

Bart Stupak made his choice today, on a Sunday(!), to side with evil.

Any shilling CINO Catholic who sides with this evil man is as evil as Stupak and his boss Lucifer.

I find the Deacon’s remarks and ‘analysis’ so pitiful as to make me question his sincerity. Here’s the problem and one does not have to be a constitutional lawyer to understand the tension between a so-called EO and a law authorizing both regulatory and fiscal subsidies for state mandates requiring insurance for abortion and abortion on demand at ‘community health centers.’ An EO constitutionally cannot alter the law; it is only a directive to an executive agency to do something within the law. An EO cannot override the law to which Stupak sold out. Shame on Stupak, and as to the Deacon, please be more thoughtful about such apologias for a traitor lest you be mistaken as providing cover for one who deserves to be exposed for the fraud stupak truly is.
