Unless a deal is struck with Stupak, Dems appear to be short on votes.
By Bob Cusack - 03/21/10 02:20 PM ET
Hours before a scheduled vote on healthcare reform, Democratic leaders don't have the votes.
The decisions of two Tennessee Democrats, Reps. John Tanner and Lincoln Davis, to vote no has put President Barack Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and her lieutenants in a major bind.
If every member votes, Democratic leaders can only afford 37 defections. According to The Hill's whip list, there are 39 Democrats planning to vote no.
Furthermore, The Hill also has seven Democrats in the undecided/unclear column: Reps Jim Cooper (Tenn.), Kathy Dahlkemper (Pa.), Paul Kanjorski (Pa.), Alan Mollohan (W.Va.), Mike Quigley (Ill.), Bobby Rush (Ill.) and Loretta Sanchez (Calif.).
There have been various reports on Sunday that Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) and other anti-abortion lawmakers have agreed to an abortion deal involving an executive order from the Obama administration. However, Stupak's office are strongly denying those reports.
Even though several Democratic leaders said they had the votes on Saturday, Stupak said on Sunday he and others were involved in intense negotiations with the White House late on Saturday night. The Saturday night talks strongly suggest Democrats are short of the 216 necessary.

I just heard on CSPAN the WH and Stupak have some kind of agreement.
it’s over.

Yes they are, I think that is why there has been such a campaign of disinformation.
Riding an emotional roller coaster will wear out the best of them....that's why it being done.
I’m with you!!
Yeah God is at work here and this is what he is doing:
Revelation 2:14-17
14 And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the origin* of Gods creation:
15 I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. 16So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing. You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
This is the way that demonstrates the decadent state our goverment is in so He will now have no reservations to kick individuals and groups out from under His protection as He unleashes His judgment upon people who richly deserve it.
AMEN TO THAT!!
I'm also not giving up on the vote...I think it will either fail by 2-3 votes, or pass by 4-5...but I have no real gut feeling which it will be, other than "wishful thinking"...
HOWEVER...if it passes, it won't be the end of the world right away, and that's when the rest of the real work will begin. Lots of other posts/articles here about what comes next...and that's a fight than can be won!

Democrats have reached a deal on an executive order on abortion that could hand them a victory on healthare.
“Eight or nine” Democrats, including Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), will announce the deal at a 4 p.m. press conference, according to an anti-abortion Democrat.
“We’ve changed [our votes],” said Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio).
Driehaus said he’s seen the executive order and can now vote for the healthcare bill. He said Stupak has signed off, as well.
Too late, guys, Stupak got his 30 pieces of silver. Now only the state AGs can save us from this unconstitutional horror!

The States are in passive rebellion, but they have to be willing to continue even if the Nine High Priests of Justice rule against them. The Constitution is owned by the People, not SCOTUS, not the Liberal Messiah and not by the Congress!
So all of the pro-choice House Democrats are going to vote for a bill knowing abortion won't be covered? Planned Parenthood will go psychotic. It will challenge any such EO in court.
Worse, party over God.
Let’s hope so.
Why does this situation remind me of 1861?
Because the bill will make the Second Civil War move from being inevitable to being imminent.
This also remind me, and many others, of 1938. Stupak is playing the role of Neville Chamberlain and Obama is playing the role of... you get the point. ;)
Ummm, if real life was a script it just might work...
That photo needs a double barf alert.
