On Thursday evening my husband and I made the decision to drive to Washington D.C. to be part of the "Kill the Bill" protest on the Capitol lawn.
We had been a part of the 9-12 DC Tea Party, having been part of the Tea Party movement since it's beginning, and have a vested interest in making sure this monstrosity doesn't pass (it is pending as I type this).
We drove to DC Friday evening and drove back Saturday, not able to stay for the entire event because of church responsibilities Sunday morning, but we were thrilled to be a part of this huge gathering of American citizens, and I hope these photos give a feel for what we were about, and how powerful a voice "We the People" have.
As the protest developed and our loud voice was heard, we were told by Michelle Bachmann and others in Congress that our being there indeed was having an effect on what was going on inside the Capitol building in front of us. (The Slaughter of the Constitution went down while we were there).
We broke up to go into the Congressional office buildings and "visited" the wavering Congressmen (we spent most of our time at John Boccieri's office).
If the bill passes, you can be assured that our fight is not over. We must win this battle, and if they succeed in passing this destructive, unconstitutional bill, we will fight to have it overturned.
These are a few of my photos of the event. May God bless and have mercy on America!
We couldn't see everywhere, but we could hear people chanting far from where we were standing, and definitely large groups.
The Dems may have betrayed us and may vote yes today, but THEY WILL NOT FORGET US!
I'd like to hear from someone who is there today to get a better estimate as to how many there are there. 30,000 people can make a lot of noise!
Well it looked like a really good crowd. I was in D.C for the 9/12 march and knew we had many more than the media was reporting. wish I could have been there for this one, but we plan to be back in Sept. of this year for the 2nd rally. Thanks for going!!!!!
As for 9-12........when you're part of a million people, you KNOW it. When Fox said 100 thousand I wondered what they were smoking.
That was a HUGE crowd!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The photos are wonderful.
Thank you for being there.
These patriots cause me to take heart.
I refuse to watch Shepard Smith ever again.
He is in the tank for the Rats.
Thanks for sharing and helping the cause! (applause!!!)
you just made my day.. thanks
I am SO PROUD to be an American. WE WILL WIN.
Deep and humble bow, Miss Didi. ;)
That was a HUGE crowd!
No kidding, you could barely turn around. It was elbow to elbow. I would think, looking @ your pictures your #’s were closer to one hundred thousand than 40,000.
You can't see how thick the crowd was up front, but you can see how broad it was across.
I wonder if anyone up on the balcony took a clandestine photo so we could really tell?
Very eloquently stated, ohioWfan. This is a somber day in America.
There will be consequences to this blatant power grab. The Dems aren't going to know what hit them, methinks.
Well done, ohioWfan. Many thanks to you and your husbandand, again, to your son.
Thanks, OWF. I heard you were lucky enough to go. Thank you for that also.
(Son is doing very well! :)
It just seemed as though the Lord was leading us both to go.
So we did. :)
Great pictures but you have the same problem many of us have; there are not enough pictures taken with wide angle lenses.
I took pictures of the March for Justice in 1998, the 2005 Freedom Walk, Prince William Tea Party in April 2009, Prince William Tea Party in July 2009, the 912 Freedom Rally, Michele Bachman at the Capitol Steps in November 2009, and the Kill the Bill Rally March 20, 2010.
However, except for the 1998 March for Justice, when I was still using my wide array of 35 mm film cameras and lenses, none of my small digital cameras has a wide enough lens. The next gathering I am going to get out my Canon A1s film cameras and my 24 mm lens, which is the widest I own. I may even buy a used wider angle lens.
I recall what Eisenhower said after liberation of some of Hitlers concentration camps. Take lots of pictures because sure as hell they will be some bastard in the future who will claim it never happened.
We stopped to grab a sandwich down the street a few blocks from the Cannon Building where that disgrace of a Congressman, Gerry Connolly, hangs out. A TV tuned to CNN was carrying the news of the 100 or so participants in the Anti-War Rally but not a peep of the 30,000 to 50,000 attending the Kill the Bill Rally. Someone commented that CNN would not report a Tea Party Protest of several thousand people but they would report it if only a few people showed up. There is a great deal of truth to that observation.
I found a path behind the trees that are to the left of the Capitol steps where I could take several pictures to stitch together a panoramic view but the police caught me after only 3 pictures and told me to leave the restricted area, which by the way was not marked restricted.
At the 9-12 rally, my husband stood on a wall and took photos left, center and right to get the panoramic view, but even that didn't work.
I know nothing about taking actual photographs with actual cameras, so I'm stuck with the digital variety.
btw, GREAT photo of Michelle Bachmann there! You were close!
