Outspoken American pundit Ann Coulter gives a London speech Monday

American conservative firebrand Ann Coulter won't be in London until Monday but already the dust is flying.
Local activist and one-time NDP candidate Megan Walker says of Coulter, "She's venomous . . . She crosses the line and promotes hatred and violence."
Walker's comments provoked a response from a woman instrumental in bringing Coulter to London, Mary Lou Ambrogio, whose group, the International Free Press Society, is paying $10,000 for the appearance, the balance of Coulter's fee coming from an American group that promotes conservatism in young women, the Claire Boothe Luce Policy Institute.

Ambrogio said Coulter was chosen to test the tolerance of Londoners for free speech, a test she says Walker has flunked.
"She pays lip service to free speech," Ambrogio said.
While Coulter pushes peoples' buttons, she doesn't incite criminal activity nor hatred, she said.
"That's pretty outrageous," Ambrogio said, challenging Walker to "prove it."
Walker responded with 10 comments made by Coulter including:
"My only regret with (bombing terrorist) Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."
After American abortion doctor George Tiller was gunned down in church last year, Coulter was asked to condemn the killing by conservative Fox host Bill O'Reilly. She replied: "I don't really like to think of it as a murder. It was terminating Tiller in the 203rd trimester . . . I am personally opposed to shooting abortionists, but I don't want to impose my moral values on others."
Ambrogio defended Coulter, saying, "Incitement to violence is very specific and these comments, while they may be offensive or hurtful to the people involved are not criminal . . Ms. Coulter, like millions of others, happens to believe that terminating the fetus is murder. She is simply using their language in a clever way, I think, to point out how absurdly their language strikes those who defend abortion."
Walker's comments have served to shine the spotlight on Coulter's visit, and in doing so, has sapped attention from another American visiting two days later, Robert Kennedy Jr., a talk paid for by Western.

I do beg to differ. Strung along the trans-Canada highway are numerous way stop communities and small towns, including some cities. Now, in America there is places like West Virginia (I have been there and liked it). Places like Massachusetts (never been). I would think a quite different way of life. I would think that a general overall classification about America by foreigners, is often pretty well without substance. It is so varied ( hence it's strength). Sort of like saying blood and murder in the streets there. Or saying that the streets are paved with gold (freebies).
Same thing in Canada. We have a minority Conservative government. They are beset with, very often a liberal controlled media. The television monopoly of CBC and CTV consisting of lurkers, waiting to flatten the Conservatives with a "scandal".
Excuse the rant here but..... well I had better get back to the subject. Ann Coulter of course. Anything that riles the liberal and left wing socialists is all to the good. Some of us know that it is all a big put on. Like the screaming and crying about the treatment of Afghan detainees, maligning our troops indirectly, without supporting terrorism.

I admire your spirited defence of ye olde Dominion on this thread. However a few thoughts to put things in a perspective. I would like to point out that to generalize as has been done might not show a true picture. I know that certain parts of Toronto are downright dangerous and Toronto has a certain reputation. The small Canadian city ain't like the place. Only game is shot at.
I am saddened at the apparent bad reputation of say Detroit, Michigan. Was treated very kindly there many years ago. Yet, if one went to small town Michigan, it is a different world. Like Petoskey, Michigan. Sort of like a dream world of peace and squeaky clean.
My little homilies will sooner or later get me into some flak, but still, it is nice to hold forth. Vis: freedom of speech.
I suspect there are quite a few things you don't understand . If this hellhole is so disagreeable to you , you do have one freedom that you can exercise , the freedom to leave .

That Ann Coulter not only opposes the left's pathologies but uses biting sarcasm and humor to skew the left's pretensions is why she remains very popular, despite years of leftist's attempts to characterize her as 'dangerous' and 'hateful'. Hardly. Ann Coulter is aqccurate and effective, making her the source of much angina for the left. Go Ann!

I did 10 years in 2PPCLI, I served my country and I’ve seen what hellholes exist around the planet and what socialism/communism down like I said. If there was a free country to go to, I’d be gone. That’s why if the US revoltes, I’m going to help my southern neighbors restore freedom. I’m not your typical Canadian who thinks everything is “A” ok in this country. It once was a great country, now it’s a multi-cultural, bilingual nightmare.

A great deal of animosity towards Coulter by libs is the comedy gold Coulter mines from lib's words and actions. She merely points out their hypocrisy on numerous issues, and they can't stand it.
