Jewish Anger at Obama
The Daily Beast ^ | 03/18/10 | LLoyd Grove

Posted on 03/18/2010 9:12:12 AM PDT by OldDeckHand

A number of powerful American Jewish leaders are upset with the president over escalating tensions between the U.S. and Israel—and may take it out on the Democrats this fall.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addresses some 7,500 delegates to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s Washington policy conference on Monday morning, the moment will be fraught. It’s just possible that Clinton, accustomed to being love-bombed by the powerful pro-Israel lobby’s conventioneers whenever she spoke as New York’s junior senator, will be greeted with chilly silence or, worse, scattered boos—the AIPAC membership’s angry response to the frayed and apparently deteriorating relationship between Israel and the United States.

“Man, I wouldn’t want to be Hillary Clinton going there at this point in time,” says Manhattan billionaire James S. Tisch, chief executive of Loews Corp.—the hotel, insurance and oil exploration conglomerate—and a longtime activist in Jewish causes and philanthropies. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets a ‘cold’—a diplomatic sickness.”

The 57-year-old Tisch, a big-money political donor who gives to both Democrats and Republicans and supported John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, is typical of wealthy Jewish supporters of Israel, especially in New York, who are bitterly opposed to President Obama’s Middle East policies and harshly critical of the officials who are carrying them out. Tisch was one of a number of Jewish leaders interviewed by the Daily Beast who were angry at Obama—so much so that they think the issue could affect Jewish donations to Democratic candidates this fall.

"Nothing new here from Hillary. ... She has always been antisemitic."

I don't think so. The only thing Hillary cares about is Hillary and power for Hillary. Actually having strong hatred gets in the way of that. She will blow whichever way the wind takes her. She needs to be pro-Israel to be Senator from New York so she was pro-Israel. She needs to be anti-Israel to be Obama's Secretary of State, so she's anti-Israel. Next week she will be whatever serves Hillary, plain and simple. Never trust her to do anything else.

"Correct. American Jews always vote for the Dumbocrats. It’s encoded in their DNA."

Jews didn't vote for Carter in 1980. Don't believe me? Check the numbers. We split between Reagan and Anderson (as in 21% for Anderson as opposed to 7% of the vote overall).

What Obama did makes Carter's Presidency look mild by comparison. He won't get the 41% of Jews that Jimmah managed if he runs for reelection. Not even close.

I'm sorry, but posts like yours are downright anti-Semitic in their own right and certainly insulting to Jewish Republicans.

"It’ll be interesting if this effects Schumer’s Senate race.."

Schumer will probably be fine so long as he remains staunchly pro-Israel and distances himself from Obama on this issue. Schumer knows what it takes to win in New York and the Jewish vote is a big part of it.

Most of Anderson's vote in fact. The Anderson voters wouldn't vote for the GOP because of it's antisemitic stereotype. Can you believe "conservatives" contribute to it to this very day. Call people stupid, disloyal or trash their faith, they will not vote for you. Should note Carter's Republican predecessor was every bit as anti-Israel as he was, perhaps more.

So? You called for Israel to get screwed for the actions of American Jewry.

Which says a lot about *YOU*...

Where did I call for Israel to get screwed? I made the observation that those who should be her strongest defenders are anything but.

The article we are all posting about is about the Obamanation screwing with Israel.

To which you posted:

The Jewish vote is second only to the black vote in loyalty to the Dem party. They got what they voted for.

So you are happy to see Israel get screwed for the actions of American Jewry. People read that and learn about who you are.

There is actually a difference between the American Jewish population and Israel. The former made their choice of Obama. The latter don’t vote on US elections. So I stand by what I said. If you don’t see the distinction then fine.

Yes there is. So why are you so happy about seeing Obama screw over Israel?

Getting ‘even’ with a group of voters on the backs of innocents is just evil.

I know some rather liberal Jews (artists from Soho) who now deeply regret voting for him. They won’t be making that mistake ever again.

And I periodically reinforce that (gently) by reminding them how he’s screwing over Israel and kissing up to her enemies.

I assume that you hold the same contempt for the Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc, that voted for Obama.

You forgot to mention them, though. Tzfat is correct, there IS a word for that ... and it's hyphenated. I'm sick to death of you and your ilk blaming the Jews.

Jews make up approx 2% of the population ... Christians make up over 80% of the population. You need to look in your own backyard.

I’m Jewish and not orthodox....But am very right wing. Freepers throw out loose talk that “Jews elected 0bama”. Jews voted for him but so did others. It’s not like there are 90 million Jews in America voting Democrat

A majority of Catholics voted 0bama and their numbers are much larger
Majority of protestants voted for McCain
Women voted more for 0bongo than men

80% of 2% of the population voted 0bama. That's the Jewish impact. Jewish donors is another matter plus 0bama has far too many Jewish enablers working for him

Thanks! I have to be subtle about it because I don’t want to risk making them feel I’m pushing. I’d rather they think that turning against Obama is their idea!

American Jews will line up behind Obama. Their religion is liberalism. That is all.
