1k per person, per firearm would be considered my bare minimum.

Neah.

They need to “train like they fight.” They need “shooting houses” where they go from room to room clearing them as they go. Mockups of schools and “big box” stores would be good, too.

A good training program would burn up that ammo in no time at all!

a highly connected Wisconsin Democrat must have a brother-in-law who’s in the ammo business

Stored right, you will be dead and gone long before your ammo goes bad.

They are worried about 58,000 rounds? Unless we are talking about Mayberry RFD... that doesn’t sound like an excessive ammount for a police department. They should put what they are not going to use in a couple years in sealed containers packed with silca gell and keep them in a cool dry location.

I didn’t read the article thoroughly... It sounds like the sheriffs department is trying to get out of paying for the excess ammo.

“why would you continue to purchase it.”

Its in the budget. If you don't spend the money, it goes away in next year's budget. The author does not know how any branch of tax payer supported government works.

I have only slightly less 30-06 ammunition than did the 1st Infantry Division in June 0f 1944. It shoots just fine.

Probably some stupid liberal accountant is afraid the ammunition will shoot him while he is sleeping.

Everybody should hope to have this much already stockpiled.

A good training program would burn up that ammo in no time at all!

I did some training at BlackWater a few years ago, we went through 500-1000 rounds a day.

"but usually degenerates into very little LE, and what they get are frequently the dregs of the Sheriff’s office."

Maybe. But at times, the Fresno County Sheriff's Department has taken over the small towns of Parlier, Huron, and Mendota. Huron and Parlier couldn't reinstate their Departments fast enough! And it was because people who broke the law got arrested! Drunks, drug dealers, wife beaters, drunk drivers, etc. And people driving without licenses and expired registrations got their cars towed. The Sheriff's Department didn't send the dregs, they sent officers who would not show favoritism.

Yea, just basic common sense. You also don’t want to store it on anything that is vibrating or where the ammo is loose and rolling around alot. The powder has a tendincy to grind against itself which changes the burning rate. It will turn into an explosive instead of a propelent.

I’ll take it off their hands for the small fee of $1 per round, plus shipping. (This is a gubmint transaction, right?)

58,000? Seriously not bragging but I keep 25,000 on hand as I shoot that much or more every year. 58,000 is only 58 cases. If cops were to actually be proficient they need to shoot not less than 1,000 rounds every year and it would be much better to get in at least 5,000 rounds. That’s only about 10 cops worth of ammo for a year.
