A Palm Springs man who wore a Marine Corps uniform with medals and bragged about fighting in a battle in Iraq was sentenced Monday to a year of probation, authorities said.
Steven Douglas Burton, 39, was also ordered to pay a $250 fine and a $25 sentencing assessment by U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips in Riverside, authorities said.
In his plea agreement, Burton admitted to wearing the uniform and medals on several occasions, including at least two Halloween parties and his 20-year high school reunion in Martinez in the Bay Area, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Joseph Akrotirianakis, who prosecuted the case.
Burton pleaded guilty in December to violating a federal law prohibiting the unauthorized wearing of a U.S. military uniform. The medals that he wore on his uniform included the Navy Cross, authorities said.

He should also get a bunch of bonus bitch-slaps for going through life looking like such a dorky douchebag.
Nine plus the Navy Cross. He was masquerading as a Lieutenant Colonel at his reunion. Previously this homo was masquerading as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.
Hello my name is “MUD”
Wanna be a Marine? Here's your chance!
native Hoosier (Terre Haute), retired US Army CW3- Somalia August to December ‘93...three things..thanks for your service- agree with your comments and where did you get the Somaila Never Forgotten patch on your page...
The really threw the leaflet at him didn’t they?
He got off light.
It's going to be interesting to see the outcome of the 1st amendment suit from “Stolen Valor” perps.
No prison - no fines.
People that do this should be sentenced to do community service at the VA, to a work detail on a post....... let them do something for those they pretend to be and whose pride, glory and honor they want to steal. Clean, paint, scrub, wash, mow.........
That p.o.s. should have been sent to real prison.
What a scumbag judge.
Oh its worse than you think....
He’s carrying the rank of MASTER GUNNERY SGT !!!!!
My Gawd, That Rank is the equivalent to GOD in the Corp!!!!
The man should be drawn and quartered.
Actually, I just thought of an appropriate punishment....
4 hours in Real Boot Camp.....if he even lived that long.
Darn, there goes my next Halloween costume; I (a former USN enlisted “deck ape”) was going to uniform myself as a five star admiral!
He's lucky that this vet and Marine Dad was not on his jury. I would have campaigned for a little (not a lot) of slams time as well as (and as was suggested in some posts above) some service to the Military community.
Boot camp? I know the "type", and I don't believe that he would have lasted more than a day or so.
.
Now, THAT’S who should slap this weeping man!
With a PR-24!
There was no jury. He copped a plea and was slapped on his limp homo wrist by a POS judge.
What a loathsome scumbag!
I don’t know where to begin...
MARINE OFFICER?
PURPLE HEART?
NAVY CROSS?
IRAQ VETERAN?
EMBLEMS THAT SAY HE WORKED AT THE PENTAGON OR THE WHITE HOUSE FOR THE JOINT CHIEF OF STAFF OR HQMC?
The punishment he is receiving is a mere slap on the wrist.

Works for me. Three months of getting your ass kicked by an E-5 with maybe two rows of ribbons, and coming out with a thorough appreciation of what it takes to earn all of that hardware. Oh, and I'd make sure his Drill Instructor team knew who he was.
Eventually, he'd become the Pit God of MCRD, with Olympic-grade skills at Bends and MFers and Mountain Climbers.
