“In Team America: World Police, the first Hollywood-financed movie inspired by the U.S. invasion of Iraq and its attendant political controversy, South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone dispatched a squad of U.S. guerrillas — all in marionette form — to take down an Axis of Evil dictator and, in the process, slaughter the real villains of the piece: a bunch of self-important celebrities who had publicly opposed the U.S. policy. True. This is similar to what happened to MGM in the '70s. MGM just kept making more bad movies than good, though not overtly political ones. Political movies are invariably bad (see An American Carol) and failing to make entertaining movies is the doom of a studio.

Y'know, that's an interesting quote, insofar as it lumps the "South Park guys" (with their Team America) into all the rest. I'd wager that Team America grossed more than all the other referenced movies put together. It was a huge, huge financial success.

The only reason I bothered with this shtick dreck was that we had free passes from last week when the projector jammed.

And yes, it was THAT bad. Actually, kinda funny in spots, not deliberately, of course.

That is what I don’t understand. Do these execs allow themelves to be driven to bad decisions, by some high priced actor. I mean it is the public they should be thinking about. But in that rarified air bad decisions get made. Mayer and Goldman wouldn't be outsmarted.
