Poor census response feared
Buffalo News ^ | 03/15/2010 | Jay Rey

A decennial tradition that dates back 220 years to the days of George Washington continues today when federal census forms start arriving at more than 120 million households across the United States.

But hanging over this 23rd U.S. census are concerns about a decline in participation.

While the U.S. census has always evoked some resentment toward the feds for poking their nose into people's business, there's a sense that America's distrust of the government has reached greater heights and could contribute to poor census returns.

There is no long or “expanded” form this year. Everyone gets 10 questions. I’ll answer 1 or 2...

Wonder if they have hired special Census workers who speak EBONICS!

No, they speak OBAMICS...

There has to be something wrong with thinking the word endure should even be in a conversation about a simple census.

"Enduring" is not about the act of filling out the form. "Enduring" is ALL about living with all the Federal overreach into everyone's life that has been the result of our complacency over the years in keeping the USG in it's Constitutional cage - like our founders obviously intended.

From a former New Yawker: assuming you still live there, you should really consider moving - just leave the attitude there. The place has apparently overwhelmed you to the point where you're happy to lay back and enjoy it just as long as it feeds your hobby. A fresh perspective is a good thing.

Now how does that save money? Here is a guy (stranger to me) being paid by the hour plus his milage to hand deliver the census form. If it needed to be hand delivered why not let my rural route carrier do that job? She is known to me. She comes by and delivers mail everyday.”

Postings on a thread last week said that census workers in rural areas were being paid to work ONE SIDE of the road only. That would mean 2 paople to cover both sides of the road, and double the gas money.

More waste of money by NObama.

You are absolutely right. I work in a historical/genealogical society. I have right in front of me a photocopy of the 1870 federal census form.

There are 20 categories of information in the 1870 including: name of every person in household; age of last birthday for each person; color (white, black, mulatto, Chinese, Indian); profession, occupation, or trade of each person male or female; value of real estate; value of personal estate; place of birth naming state or territory or the country of origin if foreign birth; father of foreign birth (y or n); mother of foreign birth (y or n); if born within last year what month; if married within last year what month; cannot read; cannot write; attended school within last year; whether deaf and dumb, blind, insane, or idiotic; male citizen of U.S. 21 or older; male citizen of U.S. of 21 years of age and upwards whose right to vote is denied or abridged on other grounds than rebellion or other crimes.

Sorry to remind everyone. Neither Obama nor Romney was president in 1870. People refusing to return forms are playing into Obama’s hands—they won’t be counted in the rural, generally conservative parts of the country; their states and districts will lose representation; Hispanics and other minorities in big cities will be overcounted and will get more federal tax dollars spent in their districts and re-districting will favor Obama voters. Wise up, people.

Why are you shilling for 0bozo the commie pig & the corrupt gubmint RATs? I don’t give a hoot about the geneologists, and I don’t see that in U.S. Constitution as a reason for the census. Answer Question 1, then answer #9 - American, than N/A for the rest of the questions.

The main thing to be "feared" is the counting of illegal aliens in California and the resultant increase in the number of Congressional reps allocated to that state. They already have undue influence in Congress. Mostly leftist influence. The "winner take all" rules they impose on their electoral votes simply hands more power to the left.

Only by their own digging— Not by my participation.

I don’t recall anyone on this thread claiming they should be trashed. What’s being said is, only those questions that aren’t an unwarranted intrusion should be answered. Period.

They’ll get the data they need. They won’t get the data they don’t need or shouldn’t have. And this way we’ll still get proper representation. Wise up yourself. I’ not here to support your personal genealogical needs.

That’s not the census, and I don’t believe they can make you fill it out. I got one once and threw it away.

LOL I dont think they are doing a bathroom count. “”

That question and many, many more were on the form I got in 2000.

Your tax accessor does that and if you dont let THEM in, they judge by the size of your windows.””

No roving assessors here. Taxes start with the original build and can only ramp up a max of 3% per year. Tax bill for next year will actually be going down due to drop in prices all over the county and state.

Up till this time I thought whoever left 2 packets at one address was just stupid. But I do live on 5 acres in a large mobile home on a road with blacks and hispanics - maybe they figured there were more than 20 people living here.

Yeah I know, I’m white trash. LOL!

Just got my Census form...had to get it from a neighbor’s house, because USPS delivered it to the WRONG address. Just can’t wait until the clowns are in charge of the American health care system...it’ll be a killer.

“If you dont send back a completed form, you will find them at your door...”

Maybe...the Census Bureau is having a real problem hiring workers...thousands and thousands of census jobs; paying anywhere from $13 to $25 per hour; remain vacant.
