We moved here to ND year before last and I always interchanged dinner and supper also I started working at a hospital where the older people live, like a nursing home but not. Many of the resident have dementia and have lived their whole lives here.
Do you know how many of them I have confused by asking about their meals? It is almost comical, I was doing an I & O (a record of fluid in and out) and asked what she had had for dinner. I of course meant supper but she gave me a rundown of what was for lunch. She had me confused till I remembered.
Then of course many of them have no idea what time of day it is and meals are what gives them cues. I have finally learned to to only say supper.

That’s regional when I was growing up in Texas lunch was always dinner and the nightime meal was supper. There are a lot of southerners that would make the same assumption as that lady. They spoofed that very thing on an IHOP commercial years ago about dinner supper or dinner lunch.
