I have a potentially dumb question — why would the “no” dem votes switch to “yeas” and vote for this rule?

Several reasons.

First of all, Pelosi allowed a number of Dems who favor the bill to vote "no" last time. Just how many, we don't know. But she has a reserve of indeterminate size.

Second, the Dems have burned their bridges. Forward is their only way. Yes, if they do this (especially if they do it with the votes of "no to yes" switchers), they are going to get buried in November.

But you can't have a little bit of revolution, you can't be partially communist.

They've crossed the Rubicon. Alea iacta est.

If they turn back now, their party explodes and gets replaced by a real revolutionary communist party. And we get war.

So, as they say, "in for a penny, in for a pound". Or, if you prefer, "dance with the guy that brung ya". The armies of socialism only march in one direction.

They HAVE to do this, so they will.

In other words, Democrats will avoid a direct vote on the health care bill while allowing it to become law!

They can claim that it's law, but that wouldn't make it true. For Obama to enforce it or even sign it would definitely be a usurpation of power.

As Shakespeare said, “Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war.”

He put those words in the mouth of Mark Antony, with the meaning, "let the soldiers pillage and create chaos". Be careful what you wish for.

We are closer to war than we have been since December 1860, but the die is not cast. Let us take care not to make the situation worse.

If they pass this "law" with a majority in the House, multiple channels of relief other than war are available, and will be used. If they send the Senate bill to Obama without passing it in the House, especially if Biden overrules the parliamentarian and his ruling is upheld on the floor, and if Obama signs it, then a truly unprecedented situation will exist and things may quickly slip out of control.

“Still think McCain is a loyal American?”

Don’t put words in my mouth. I said that I don’t think things would be as bad as they are with Obama and I still do.

Pyscho_Bunny:
Why do you think they don’t understand?

In one view, we have been set up to take ourselves out of the international scene, and it is almost a foregone conclusion (may heaven forbid).
Trash the economy; arm the populace to the hilt, create or exploit fault lines between interests; throw in a leadership that makes people buy even more weapons than they had before; get a few misguided, shortsighted, or treasonous leaders to toss out the rule of law; and sit back and wait.
No one is threatened by Yugoslavia.

hmmmm - Cui bono? which government had access to the Oval Office a decade and a half ago? Which government flooded us with hundreds of thousands of cheap “battle” rifles about the same time that weapons bans and rumours of weapons bans were flying around? Which government perhaps spent the most money trying to influence our last election through shell donors? Which government is the number one holder of US debt? Which government has economic or strategic control over most of the worlds shipping lanes (google Global Strategic Positioning)? Which government benefits the most from a US too weak to care about how it treats its citizens? Which country’s economy benefits the most from a US that is no longer the chief competitor for oil and asphalt? Which government would rather let us destroy ourselves than expend its military resources against us when it would be better to save them for conflict with the only other large coastal economic power in its region?

Just some questions, and an observation that we don’t think long term like some other cultures do. Not to downplay the significance of Islam’s war with the West - The West is paying attention not only to the wrong wars but the wrong sort of war, and we will be left behind for it if we do not wake up.
I will not say that it might not even be better for us in the long run, to be a less “powerful player” on the world scene. But I would hope that we will get it together in time to rescue ourselves from ourselves and become strong enough that the world will leave us alone.

Perhaps.

Well, if that rationale is correct, then there is no way back short of widespread resistance. It is past time for the states to plan to block the unconstitutional spread of Federal power including the redirection of Federal tax payments by the state's citizens to the state for holding until such time as the ship of state is righted. States that have the ability, like Texas, can take economic and energy actions to make Washington see the error of its ways.

Before each of these representatives could take office they were required to take an oath to protect, defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States. By voting for this “Rule” and thus passing ObamaCare into law by fiat, they are activity subverting the very Constitution they took and oath to uphold. This is by definition (below) an act of “TREASON” and each should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

trea·son   /ˈtrizən/ Show Spelled[tree-zuhn]

1.the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.

2.a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.

3.the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

Rules, what rules?

1. Ideological subversion is the process which is [a] legitimate, old word, and open. You can see it with your own eyes.  All American mass media has to do is to "unplug bananas" from their ears, open up their eyes,  and they can see it.  There is no mystery.

It has nothing to do with espionage. I know that espionage intelligence gathering looks more romantic.  It sells more deodorants through the advertising.  That's probably why your Hollywood producers are so crazy about James Bond types of films. But in reality the main emphasis of the KGB is NOT in the area of intelligence at all.

According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.

It's a great brainwashing process which goes very slow and is divided into four basic stages.

The first stage being "demoralization"...
---KGB Defector Yuri Bezmenov.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2095202/posts

In the end, it doesn't matter whether the process of demoralization is implemented by a foreign enemy...

"...fraud, you probably think there should be rules against it, I think the market will figure it out."
--Alan "The Wizard" Greenspan

....or a domestic one.

The Demoralized end result is still the same -- systemic corruption of financial and other critical infrastructures... and the Republic dependent upon them.

You are right to say that nothing is inevitable.

However -

If Obamacare passes - The Right goes APE.

If Obamacare dies - The Left goes APE.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS!

The words in Art I, Section 7, para 2:

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively. If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.

(emphasis mine)

The phrase, "But in all such cases..." refers to the override process, does it not? I keep hearing people state that this sentence (re. counting of Yeas and Nays and taking names) is evidence that this procedure is unconstitutional. It may well be unconstitutional - but this is not evidence of that - unless I am missing something.

Please enlighten me.

There isn’t much difference at all between McCain and Obama. Don’t kid yourself - we would have ended up in this mess whichever one had been elected.

Are you being serious?

Isn’t C/P strategy where the “poor” are so numerous they overwhelm the “capitalists”

As I understand it it's more a matter of using the programs in the system to overwhelm the system's ability to cope with the intention of crashing the entire economy so that they can impose their desired system upon the reboot of society. The common version is to get so many people into the social programs the economy can't support the cost and it crashes. Whereas this would be twisting the political system so far that people rebel and the government structure collapses...so when I say this is cloward and piven what I mean is another avenue than the standard one but with the same goal of collapsing the system so they can impose their structure upon the reboot of society.
