House liberals force vote on pullout from Afghanistan
The Washington Post ^ | March 9, 2010 | Perry Bacon, Jr.

Posted on 03/08/2010 6:45:04 PM PST by Brandonmark

Liberals in the House, who have spent much of the past year complaining that other congressional Democrats and the White House are insufficiently progressive, will get a chance this week to vent about one of their biggest concerns: the war in Afghanistan.

House leaders will allow three hours of formal debate, probably Wednesday, on an antiwar resolution written by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), one of the leading antiwar voices in Congress. The resolution, which has 16 co-sponsors, calls for the United States to remove all of its troops from Afghanistan in 30 days -- or by the end of the year, if it is determined that trying to do so in a month would be too dangerous.

The resolution will invoke the 1973 War Powers Act, which Congress passed in protest of the escalation of the Vietnam War by a series of presidents without formal congressional authorization. It requires congressional approval for a president to put troops in a military conflict for more than 90 days. Congress passed a resolution authorizing military force in Afghanistan in 2001, after the Sept. 11 attacks, and some congressional scholars doubt Congress can invoke the act now to force changes to President Obama's war policy.

Whether or not it would have any legal force if enacted, the resolution has almost no chance of being approved in the House, where nearly all Republicans and many Democrats support maintaining or increasing troop levels.

But the lawmakers supporting the resolution, a group that includes antiwar Republicans such as Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.), say Congress needs to have a formal debate on the war.

Having a father and uncles involved in Vietnam I hear first hand how a leftist regime wages war. We have LBJ and McNamara x1000 in DC right now.

Tell me how the US could possible win this without a clear strategy.

As long as we are defending the same principles upon which this country was founded the only problem I might have defending them them is that they are not paying their share. However defending a nation that is officially Islamic by law is a waste of time.

Philippines.

Not the best example. Probably the best American friends in the region.

That being said, I don’t see why we should give into Obama here. Bush was right. Do the job right or not at all.

These guys really can’t help themselves, can they? Wasn’t Afganistan supposed to be the good war? Oh, I forgot—any war we are involved with is bad war (our fault).

>I hear first hand how a leftist regime wages war>

The left wing and Neo Leftist PaulBots are supporting
the enemy who are IslamOfascists.
Their mindset is their religious dogma, their way of
life 24/7.
We can level the place into a parking lot but there are places and people all over the world who will turn the
U.S. into another parkinglot.

This is not Vietnam. I know many who escaped. Over 100,000
came here in one swoop after the fall of Siagon and more later.

San Diego also has over 35,000 Iraqis. Most are Chaldean Christians.

The terrorists who flew the plane into the Pentagon lived 6 miles from me.

Their Imam here , Anwar al-Awlaki lived here in San Diego for 4 years, got a degree from San Diego St. Univ.

He later moved to Yemen. He is the same Imam who e mailed with the Muslim shooter many times radicalizing him until he
killed many at Ft. Hood in TX
The same Imam who met face to face with the Nigerian who
tried to set off a bomb 25 Dec over Detroit.

This war does not have a front line nor a rear.
This is a circular war.
Where yo are, there it is.

You can’t compare it to WWII or Vietnam.

To many on FR rehash the left wing talking points.

It's because I want to WIN I advocate what I do. From Sun Tzu:

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

The enemy is Islam, and we are the defenders of liberty. Unfortunately even the Iraqi Constitution is ambiguous about religious freedom: It gives Islam first priority, democracy second (which is pointless since the first contradicts the second)

"who have spent much of the past year complaining that other congressional Democrats and the White House are insufficiently progressive"

insufficiently progressive defintion: you have some grey matter in your skull, unlike complete progressives who have none. It's still a very small amount, but it might actually show up on cat scan.

I’d be happy to bring them home and deploy them along the border. Perhaps we could end the invasion of 2 million illegals across our southern border each year.

No offense, but I suspect you might be suffering from cognitive dissonance.

The Commander in Chief of the US military is supporting the "IslamOfascists." You seem to be fine with zero's military leadership and strategy.

Knowing people who was/is in the military doesn't change reality. I know people too as I work directly with the DoD.

He didn’t say anything positive about zero as CIC, why are you suggesting that?

Because supporting the current strategy is supporting zero. Last time I checked he is still in charge of the military.

I’m under the impression that zero doesn’t have much of a policy at all. Can’t speak for the other poster, but you ought to wait for his response, cause I doubt he’ll agree with you.

So far Republicans and in general reality has forced Obama to change some of his policies away from his -

Pulling out of the war long before now.
About to close GITMO months ago and place the POW’s
in American cities.
Holding trials in NYC for the Terrorists.
Did not plan to add the troops requested in Afghanistan

All of the above have turned around due to pressure by Republicans, Generals, and basic reality.

Keeping up the pressure is the program.

Glad you thought it through.

I am all for sending each every Islamist to Allah, but want to do it on our terms and do it correctly from the start. No more of the piecemeal stuff without a Declaration of War by Congress assembled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
