Whether or not Hayworth wins he is performing a valuable service to the country by running strongly against McCain. By doing so he's forcing McCain to at least feign being a conservative. If JD was not running I have no doubt that McCain would have his nose up Obamas butt with bi-partisan, reaching across the aisle, Gang Of 14 type stunts. Hayworth is preventing McCain from actively helping Obama and the Dems from achieving their goals.
Excellent point. But I hope it ends up more than that. I think JD was deliberately torpedoed with that Abramoff charge that suddenly appeard just before the election and miraculously disappeard shortly after the election. I fiercely detest injustice.
Believe me, I understand completely, and I have no doubt JD was set up. Like you, I'm one of those old timers whose loathing and disgust with McCain goes back much further than his more recent RINO antics, since say 2000.
When he teamed up with John Kerry in 1993 on the Senate Select Committee on POW's/MIA's and betrayed his fellow Vietnam servicemen by killing any chances of forcing the North Vietnamese to account for hundreds of our people, he revealed without question what a despicable, evil piece of work he truly is.
That said, I understand completely the political calculation whereby Palin believes it necessary to endorse McCain. I don't like it, but I do understand it. And, I wish all these drama queens who are whining and moaning on these threads would grow up... /g
I’m not for Romney or Ron Paul or Huckabee. I’m against McCain. I gave to Hayworth. I don’t like McCain for a variety of reasons.
If you like McCain that is fins with me. But he is not conservative. Palin brought on the division that has being going on by choosing to not remain neutral.
People like me are cringing all the way about her support of McCain. 2008 there was no other choice left. But now in 2010 she didn’t have to go down this road.
Tearing her support apart. I wish things hadn’t gone down this road and I saw that this may ahead down this road last year.
I don’t dislike her or an ruling her out of the nomination yet. But if McCain wins and continues his petty fighting with conservatives in congress. Can we not hold Palin accountable for him being re-elected?
Have to be realistic and not end up like Obamabots.
The situation is right for a McCain loss. It would end the GOP the message we are tired of their petty games.
But if Palin were to thwart that then as I said already it can be used against her by someone else in 2012.
Nobody is perfect, but this move could tear her momentum.
It files in the face of her comments in book about the 2008 campaign. Could she not them have held McCain accountable for his aides spreading rumors and lies? It was his campaign.
Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace should have been fired.
It has become clear that Palin and McCain make a bad combination of Rinos and Conservatives. In 2008, I was all happy about Palin coming on scene to trash Obama.
Only now has it dawned on me how McCain was trying to play the base.
NO I don’t dislike Palin. But I do dislike McCain.
The same pollster 1 year ago said Palin could easily win re-election in Alaska, as Alaskans by a 56-37 margin said Palin deserved re-election. 81% of republicans said they would vote for her re-election. Gee, what happened to all of those bridges she burned? And you still failed to tell us WHO will beat Palin in the 2012 Alaska GOP Primary.
Like I said, she burned her bridges and now sits at 17% to be president.
And the poll you cite was before she left the Governorship and the fact that ACES has hurt the economy here, so try again.
Could be someone who hasn’t endorsed McCain...
Sarah, like Tancredo——working hard to take back the country!
Go Sarah!
Sarah may be her own special interest “group.” I hope to be wrong. I’ve liked and supported and defended her ever since she came on the scene, but lately she seems to have changed. Her support of McCain has exceeded what I consider to be politically necessary. Her views, if she’s to be believed, are much closer to JD’s than they are to McCain.
Maybe her extensive support for him is about her, not hMcCain. Maybe it’s as simple as she figures him to win and she doesn’t want to back the loser. bad for her image.
Wow I am starting to think that there is hope for FR. Some are starting to finally understand SP. The McCain Palin ticker was a perfect match in some ways. A couple of "mavericks" who liked to work with the dems more than there own party. I think Sarah will stay in the media where she really belongs and that is where she can do the least harm.
I kept asking all my Sarahbot friends why they thought the Anchorage Daily News adored Sarah when she was Gov ( before McCain selected her). Nobody ever gave me a good answer. The reason was that Sarah was allied of the anti-republican, pro government, tax and spend democratic crowd cabal down in Juneau. The few conservatives down there were afraid to vote against her because of her huge popularity. BTW for those outside Alaska, the ADN is the Berkley Barb of the North. Yes I remember the ACES tax hike, as do some of my ex neighbors who have lost their jobs on the slope and moved out of state.
I don’t know where you got the impression I like McCain.. that is downright laughable... I said i understand what Palin is doing that is a long way from supporting McCain.. and I, too, donate to JD.
Conservatives don't.
There's no point in condescending to the choir. It makes you look like an ass.
Ok then. I just wonder if some Palin supports would be the kind to Vote McCain because Palin supports him. This time around when Hayworth is the real conservative.
I get the notion to defend her since she is a nice person. But facts are facts. And what it means to me is that right now Palin is caught in a hard position. She made it worse by not staying neutral.
I do hope everyone does go against Palin, on this issue, and donates and if they can votes for Hayworth,
This is one situation where nobody should be hoodwinked. Good to know you are not.
My thing is the message that a McCain loss would send the Republican party is enormous. Might get Lindsey Graham to feel heat for not doing what is right and making backdoor deals with the left.
Personally I don’t think her doing a fundraising dinner with the rich and elite of Arizona for him at the Biltmore is going to move the needle one way or the other...
My friend, if that’s true, he must have loved the taste of that ____ sandwich he had stuffed in his face ‘08.
She fit perfectly with McCain, in my opinion.
The ADN, Alaska’s Red Star Tribune...
Alaska is a conservative state and she had a very high rating there. I’ve liked her from the start, although some doubt is beginning to nip around the edges of my opinion as I’ve already explained.
I don’t believe that Palin has worked with the rats like McCain has, unless you consider getting rid of pubs who’d been running the state for decades and were entrenched in a culture of greed through private and public corruption should be considered working with rats. I don’t. There’s nothing about her record that bothers me at all. What is raising some doubt for me is her constant exposure at lightweight venues that don’t display her seriousness and grasp of issues. Throwing red meat to her “audience” is not what I hoped to see. I wanted a Dick Cheney talking about serious issues constantly, not “rock star” appearances.
Your post gives me a suspicion that you’re part of the gang she pushed out of Alaska politics and you’re bitter? I don’t know. At any rate, I still support her. I just don’t know how much longer that will be true, even though I don’t think she is or ever will be like MCCain.
My distaste for the Murkowski nepotism and local corruption knows no end. I campaigned (carried signs) for, contibuted to and voted for Sarah when she ran for governor. I like many who know Sarah from way back thought she was the real deal. I still like her, I just don't love her. I am not alone as an Alaskan who saw how she governed versus how she campaigned. It's tough to realize your only hope isn't, but it is part of growing up. My fear is the repubs will be led down the road by another McCain until its too late. The fate of this republic hangs in the balance. If Sarah can advocate for conservatives in the media I think she will do a lot of good. Personally I don't think she will run, at least that is my hope.
Can you give me a series of positions she took while governor that favored rat causes? I don’t mean one or two anecdotes that may have a good explanation. I;m asking for a litany of repeated demonstrations of her helping or preferring the rat position.
Thanks.
I don’t think she will run, either. I’m just not sure yet if that’s a good thing or not.
