Democrats Search Rulebook to Thwart GOP on Health Bill (“dilatory”)

Senate Democratic leaders are seriously considering employing rarely used Senate rules against “dilatory” motions and amendments to thwart Republican attempts to drag out debate on health care legislation, several Democratic sources acknowledged.

Senate rules prohibit dilatory amendments and motions once the chamber has broken a filibuster or invoked cloture, but there do not appear to be any specific rules pertaining to how many amendments or motions can be offered under reconciliation. However, Senate Democrats are likely to argue that reconciliation rules prohibit a filibuster, and that offering an endless stream of amendments is an attempt to get around that rule.

They win elections but do nothing to repeal un-Constitutional programs, entitlements, departments, etc.

Mostly because the people sit back and expect them to do it all.

When the grassroots finally rises up a la Tea Party Movement, reps in Congress move.

Yet I’ll bet Juan McCain and his butt munching Lindsey Grahamnesty are STILL proud of their “gang of 14” betrayal of republicans and AMERICANS a few years back.

A FReeper on a previous thread dealing with a related topic showed that according to both the senate and house rules there would still be a quorum if all the Republicans walked out. So the best thing now to defeat this is to stall the bill long enough for constituents of those "moderate democrats" (if there is such a thing) or democrats from Republican districts to let their respective elected representatives know that "They're going down hard" if they vote for this bill.

The public is stupid because they handed HUGE amounts of power to the press (TV news) by being sheep watching ball games and reality TV. This gives the Dems their power.

Also thank fat RINO Newt Gingrinch and Dede for ****ing up NY-23 which may be the key vote in the House.

Again, the game now is for Obama to convince house members that the Senate can and will pass an acceptable reconciliation bill.

There will be no need to actually do the reconciliation bill, nor will there be any particular reason for the Republicans to BLOCK the reconciliation bill, since once Obamacare is passed, reconciliation might actually improve it.

So this is the Senate Democrats, “answering” Gregg’s comments last week that he could delay the reconciliation for as long as he needed.

It’s all about who can convince the house members.

...offering an endless stream of amendments is an attempt to get around that rule.

Democrats are complaining that Republicans are "attempting to get around a rule" to stop Democrats from "attempting to get around a rule?"

The Democrats are establishing unprecedented actions or tactics in order to ram another unsustainable entitlement through congress. One day, the GOP will have the majority, and these unprecedented actions will be used against the Dems. I suggest that the GOP majority declare this congress as a robber congress and nullify all its actions. I would also hope that Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi will be denounced and rebuked from the floor.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases

By Rick Maze - Staff writer, Oct 7, 2009

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

That took what I call the “full Rostenkowski” to undo.

The people need to put the fear of God into their worthless representatives the way they did Rosty and then something might be done the way we want it for a change.
