Eliot Spitzer: Why I liked ho's
New York Post ^ | 03/04/10 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Eliot Spitzer says buying sex from hookers was less of a "violation" of his marriage than a love affair with an "emotional component" would have been. * * * Asked why not just have an affair, instead of going to hookers, Spitzer said, "I know this is parsing it very thin, but the emotional component would have in some ways been a worse violation."

Only lawyers and dims think like this. Everyone else knows it’s laughable. “It didn’t mean anything!” Heh heh. Yeah, that’d fly in my house. My widow would wear black...

Rummyfan,
May I ask what Rummyfan means?
I thought Romney, or gin rummy.
As a kid I use to play Rummy and Gin Rummy with two very old Holocost survivors.
Just asking. Meaning no insult or harm.

I really got active on FR after 9/11, although I had lurked for a while before that. And I really admired Donald Rumsfeld. So.....

Like to play rummy and gin rummy too.

I actually understand his logic, not condoning it mind you. He was looking for sex, and using a call girl certainly means you can order what you like, and there are no further obligations.

IMO it is kinda silly for anyone to feign shock or actually believe Spitzer was taken to the woodshed because of his morality/immorality/ hiring $5000 Hookers.

Becoming a real big shot these days likely involves something akin to “making your bones” before the true powers behind the scenes.

We as peasants have no idea what really goes on behind the closed doors of Mansions on Private Estates now do we?

People like Spitzer may have to perform like talking monkeys. Compromising themselves long before those who allow them to move into position of public power do so.

Perhaps he was relatively conservative.. he reportedly was only having sex with females. Perhaps we should be encouraged that farm animals were not somehow involved?

Just asking.

Let’s take a different tack for a moment,

What if Spitzer mistakenly began to believe he was in a position of authority to benefit the people?

That would set those behind the scenes players on fire now wouldn’t it?

Read this Article in the Washington Post which came out a few months before his “Fall from Grace”.

“Predatory Lenders’ Partner in Crime”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/13/AR2008021302783.html

He really slams the Banksters far more than President Bush doesn’t he? Missing the mark if one supports enlightened progressive politics where he should have been slamming Bush and giving the Banksters a minor role.

He also reputedly went on as Governor to sink a number of big monied folk’s plans to get their hands on a steady stream of NY Tax Payers money.

Before that..

Spoiling for a fight: the rise of Eliot Spitzer
By Brooke A. Masters

Editorial Review - Kirkus Reviews Copyright (c) VNU Business Media, Inc.
A balanced biography from Washington Post reporter Masters of New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, called “Crusader of the Year” by Time in 2002 and a headline-hunting bully who is frequently the target of Wall Street Journal editorials.Spitzer, like one of his reformer heroes, Theodore Roosevelt, comes from a privileged background yet has earned a reputation as a foe of corrupt financiers ...

Like I said.. what if he were so foolish at one point to believe he was actually in office to represent the people?

What if the same were true for Bush Jr? He started out like a house afire. Genuinely seemed like a fella interested in doing good...appeared to have a good heart.. then faded in the stretch.

Could he have also been told just “How the Cow ate the Corn” by the rich and powerful?

I really wonder at times if we haven’t by sheer accident put or found relatively honest persons in power.. then thru our ignorance, brushed off our hands and said to ourselves..
“Our work is done” never to fully realize the depth and breath of institutionalized corruption that exists.

That the apparently, species most rare, the honest politician, probably cannot even obtain an honest staff in a place like Washington DC.. waltzed around, wined and dined and attacked from all sides.

The information and facts on any issue controlled by Staffers selected by Party Heads and Special Interest Organizations.

Heck, I do not know.. But it is an interesting possibility at least to me.

Somewhere in there might there also be a kernel of hope?
