Technically you are correct. I don’t know if there’s a casual rule about real short words, putting in an apostrophe just for visual clarity? But you are right, apostrophes are for contractions and possessives, and hos is neither.

He forgot to mention the little detail about this being agianst the law, or that he viciously prosecuted and persecuted a bunch of hookers, with religious zeal, while he was the state Attorney General, for doing exactly the same thing he was doing at the time.
