Sarah Palin -- reality TV star?

The former Alaska governor is teaming with uber-producer Mark Burnett to shop a reality series about her home state, network sources confirm.

Palin and Burnett made the rounds at at least three of the major broadcasters (NBC, ABC and Fox) while in Los Angeles for her taping of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" this week.

No, it doesnt appear to be made up, but they keep on saying its a reality show, it does not appear to be that way at all, more like a documentary..here is more that someone posted about this

A slightly different take on what’s being discussed here: Regarding the Mark Burnett/Reality Show Story

It appears that the story is being mischaracterized. We’ve heard that what Governor Palin is pitching to television executives is not a “reality show” but rather more of a “Planet Earth” style documentary showcasing Alaska’s resources, people, history, and splendor. If the project comes to fruition, it will not be an Alaskan version of the Osbournes. The show will be more “PBS/Ken Burns” instead of “MTV/The Osbournes”. This sounds like it’s another opportunity for Governor Palin to promote Alaska — which is, of course, one of the promises she made when she stepped down from the governorship.

The star of the show is supposed to be Alaska, not Sarah Palin or her family.

Read it all.

I read it and because it doesn’t deny featuring the Palin family, I presume it does. I expect it will feature them as adventurers and narrators, but it will feature them. And the Oscar swag story is just painful.

It is this Beverly Hillbillies element of the family that worries me the most about Palin as presidential candidate. I want her keeping her family out of the news, not setting them up with their own acting/celebrity careers.

"'Planet Earth' meets Alaska meets her family," referring to Discovery's high-definition nature hit.

"As a short-order series, it might work. It would depend on what kind of footage you get."

If THIS as described above is the nature of the series/mini-series it could be very classy with high production value.

Since I trust Sarah's judgment I think the writer is trying to make this sound like some sleazy tabloid-style weekly crap cake like the ozbournes or bridezilla or brain-dead-blond-floozy-life or something.

Context, writing, visuals and format all make a huge difference. An "Earth" style mini-series done in spectacular HD would be great. And if, for instance, "Alaska" also means something like the James Michener novel, it could have a great storyline, too.

It all depends on the initial vision and the team she can assemble.

The star of the show is supposed to be Alaska, not Sarah Palin or her family. It will focus on the natural wonder, frontier and unique individuals that make Alaska our nation's hidden and often undiscovered jewel. I don't know about you guys, but I think it could turn out to be a spectacular production in the vein of a Discovery Channel, National Geographic exploration of the diversity of Alaska. What do you expect from Sarah Palin? We all know how much she adores her home state.

Thank you for this. I was just speculating but all of us FReepers know Sarah better - and trust her more - than the media writers out there with their agendas.

I guess we'll have to see.

There's so much smoke and flak surrounding anything Sarah does that your "wait and see" attitude seems like the only smart option.

With regard to her presidential aspirations or lack thereof, I’ve realized how futile it is for me for to speculate on anything considering 2010 has barely started and there is SO MUCH time between NOW and 2012. Other than Romney and perhaps Pawlenty and Gingrich, NOBODY else has expressed their interest in running yet because it’s still EARLY.

Between now and 2012, and if she is considering the run, it’s not like Palin is only limited to doing “typical political” things. She can do whatever she wants and still have plenty of time left to set the stage for a run.

Between now and 2012, there will be a zillion and one rumors about Palin, stupid stories made up or framed in such a way to undermine her and her family, endless shallow commentary regarding her supposed inability to lead, fickle polling done about who will be the next nominee, etc..etc...

I have to keep in mind that NOTHING matters until late 2011 when announcements will actually be MADE—and then the PRIMARIES will commence. Americans will SEE the candidates for themselves and what they have to say, as they engage in the *DEBATES.* The ONLY polls that matter are the ones held during the primaries and ultimately, the one held the first Tuesday of November 2012.

The future direction of our country is in Almighty GOD’s hands.

I really do not believe she wants to run in 2012. This is a horrible idea if she does.

She is not running for POTUS in 2012 out right or taking the serious challenge needed for a POTUS candidate.

From HillBuzz article:

It is an absolute stroke of pure unadulterated genius that only Sarah Palin could pull off.

A travelogue that’s not really a travelogue, but a free campaign commercial for a candidate who will have an hour a week to show America the sides of herself and her family she wants shown, while captivating the country with the gorgeous scenery of a state most find pure magic.

Genius.

She’s going to define how America sees her.

The show will air in 2011 sometime. Maybe Fall of 2010, so Palin can still be on track to declare her candidacy on February 6th, 2011 as we think she will — which is Ronald Reagan’s birthday.

You know, I now have to re-evaluate everything. If she is doing this, there is simply no way she is serious about a presidential bid.

She wants to be a celebrity. I guess there is more money in it.

You don’t hire Mark Burnett to do “Planet Earth.”

It might ostensibly be about Alaska’s beauty. But Burnett is not going to do a nature doc for PBS.

How much more exposure could Palin need at this point? She is reaching Paris Hilton levels of over-exposure.

I could understand this a bit if she was planning to run for the U.S. senate for Alaska.......but not prez.
