The campus paper publishes an anonymous letter by a minority student who calls the incident 'a mindless act and stupid mistake.'
The UC San Diego student reportedly responsible for hanging a noose last week in a campus library issued a public, but anonymous, apology Monday and said she had no racist motivation.
The noose's discovery set off protests at a school that is already tense from recent racially charged episodes and triggered condemnations from UC leaders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In a letter published Monday on the front page of the UC San Diego student newspaper, the Guardian, the student wrote that the incident was "a mindless act and stupid mistake" and was not meant to recall the lynching of blacks.

It was not a “stupid mistake.” It was a “stupid thing done on purpose.”
A “mistake” connotes something done wrong, accidentally.
Do we know what kind of “minority”?
You beat me to the post!
But yeah, she nailed it. I think we all knew!
Here in St. Louis there was a big meeting and uproar on the UMSL campus because someone spread cotton balls around the front of the black student center.
COTTON BALLS!!!! For crying out loud!!!
It is SO easy to leave your noose hanging and forget to take it with you. I can SO relate. NOT.
It was plain when it wasnt a “hate crime”...
Mistake my ass.....it was a clear attempt to incite a race riot....
On Friday, the school announced several measures it was taking in response to recommendations from its Black Student Union. They include the establishment of a task force on minority faculty recruitment, a new commission to addressing declining African-American enrollment and finding space for an African-American resource center.
It's basically a protection racket. They cause a problem, then they swing on by and say, "That's a shame. You wouldn't want that to happen again, huh? Tell ya what -- why don't you set a commission to look at enrollment, and we'll keep an eye out and make sure nobody causes any more problems. Capiche?"
no kiddin’
I was just thinking today, how I wished I hadn’t left that damn noose hanging outside the 7/11 store. Yeah, right.
It scares me that the votes of these race baiters counts the same as mine, seriously.
My daughter went there on a soccer scholarship and the majority of the student body are minorities.
If we had an accurate tally over the years, I’m confident it would show that most of these acts of intimidation supposedly directed at minorities were actually carried out by minorities trying to smear the majority with false guilt and to illicit undeserved sympathy for some minority.
There should be severe penalties for anyone engaging in this sort of deceit and false representations intended to smear others.
Well, the student was anonymous. So in fact, we don’t even KNOW it was a minority student. All we know is that someone wrote a letter saying they were a minority, and that they put the noose in the library.
How that becomes a “factual news story” is beyond me.
It’s the left who’s always obsessed with race. Every single time this sort of thing happens, they sharpen their pitchforks because the assume eeeeevil racist Republicans are behind it and EVERY time it turns out to be a liberal. Now, just you watch, it’ll die down quickly. If it had actually been a conservative who did this, the state would pass more hate crimes laws or they would build a “memorial” on the school grounds against “hate”. This is all BS.
As Ann Coulter has said- there is not an epidemic of racists acts- there is an epidemic of RACIST HOAXES by blacks themselves
As one southerner said, "if we knew then what we know now, we'd have picked our own cotton."
Nooses are part of the iconography of America, and even world history. Although they have been co-opted by liberals as a symbol of violent repression of blacks their history goes far beyond that, and to many conjures up images of frontier justice.
I’ll bet this student simply didn’t think of a noose as an anti-black statement and was being mischievous in a harmless way before the PC police made it a state and then federal offense.
We should cut her some slack (oops, can I say that?)
This story is written like it was in a high school newspaper. It says she was anonymous, but also says she was suspended, although it doesn’t say whether she just SAID she was suspended, or that they confirmed she was suspended.
On the other hand, if she is anonymous, how could they possibly confirm that she was suspended? And if she was suspended, how could she be anonymous?
Does this school have a policy of publicly announcing that they suspended a student, but still respect the “privacy” of the student by not indentifying who was suspended?
Wouldn’t all her teachers notice that she wasn’t showing up? Wouldn’t they be told she was suspended, so they wouldn’t dock her for skipping class?
And on the other hand, if they already have her, and have suspended her, why does the article say the campus police are still investigating the incident? Do they think it was some sort of conspiracy?
Of course, I’d love to know what rule gets you suspended for leaving a piece of rope in the library.
Which gets us to the simple fact that a LOT more whites were hanged than blacks, and that nobody but blacks seem to think about blacks when they see a noose, the rest of us think of criminals. Does that make the blacks racist?
Recent history of these affairs contains a sizeable amount of acts by agents provocateur attempting to get a racial or gay organization on campus funded. It happened in my own city not once but twice. Did the newpapers ever raise the idiocy of the situation by questioning or mocking it? Hell, no, they don't care how dishonest liberals are as long as a goal is achieved.
The country has come so far that just about all of these things are pranks or disturbed minorities faking it.
According to the poorly-reported story, the girl had the rope with her, hung it over her desk, and then forgot to take it with her when they left — which if true would make it an “accident”.
Like accidentally leaving the stove on. Sure, you turned it on purposely, but you might have meant to turn it off.
If her story is true though, it’s hard to see how she could be anonymous. She did this during hours, someone had to see her at the library. And her friends apparently know she did it.
Actually, that would be more racist than a noose.
