With cars as meth labs, evidence litters roads

The toxic garbage, often in clumps, blends in easily with the more mundane litter along rural roads and highways here: used plastic water bottles, old tubing, dirty gloves, empty packs of medicine. But it is a nuisance with truly explosive potential, and evidence of something more than simply a disregard for keeping the streets clean.

“The way to get rid of your meth lab these days is to put it in a plastic bag, then throw it out the car window,” said William V. Wargo, the chief investigator for the prosecuting attorney’s office in Elkhart County.

Chiqita faces new claims over Colombia terrorism (update 1)

Chiquita Brands International Inc., owner of the namesake banana label, was sued by hundreds of families who claim relatives were kidnapped and murdered after the company helped Marxist rebels in Colombia.

The complaint filed today in federal court in West Palm Beach, Florida, represents more than 240 people who were victims of violence. The plaintiffs, using a 1992 law allowing Americans to sue U.S. firms over terrorism-related deaths abroad, claim that the company aided and abetted in the murders and provided material support and resources to terrorists.

Fresh terror warnings now put pets under scrutiny at Israeli airports

Snip: A former security checker, who spoke to The Media Line on condition of anonymity, said that they had not been required to pass any animals through the x-ray machines. Occasionally, the animal crates would be screened, but never the live animal.

According to the NRG website, two cases have already surfaced at Ben Gurion Airport. One American tourist was required to put her cat through the x-ray. She initially refused but after being told she would be barred from the flight if she didn’t oblige, she changed her mind. The cat was scanned, and cleared of all suspicion, and both were allowed to continue on their way. In another incident, a passenger who refused to allow his two cats to be scanned was reportedly not allowed to fly.
