Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) should be ousted from the Baseball Hall of Fame because of his block on extending unemployment benefits, according to a group that advocates for the unemployed.
The benefits expire Sunday.
The most obscene thing he can do is prevent jobless Americans from getting their $350 a week unemployment check, Rick Sloan, acting executive director of Ur Union of Unemployed, a grass roots organization for unemployed Americans, told The Hill.
Sloans group is creating an online petition to remove Bunning from Baseballs Hall of Fame. The list is expected to be operational by the weekend.
His legacy as a great ball player is about to be surpassed by his reputation as an obstinate and uncaring ideologue, Sloan said in a statement.
Efforts to reach Bunnings office were unsuccessful.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has tried for three days to extend the expiring employment provisions, only to be rebuffed by Bunning who demands the bills $10 billion cost be offset. Reid has argued the legislation is for emergency reasons and therefore offsets are not required.
More than 1 million people will lose unemployment benefits in March if Congress does not approve legislation to extend the payments, according to an estimate from the National Employment Law Project.
His heartless actions mean millions will not receive their unemployment checks. For his stance, he should be ejected from the Hall of Fame and installed in the Hall of Shame, Sloan said.
To overcome Bunnings roadblock, Reid could add a list of expiring tax breaks to the measure in hopes he will curry favor from the Kentucky lawmaker. It is unclear if this strategy will work.
Lobbying sources say legislation extending tax and unemployment benefits could be debated Monday.
Or, cutting all foreign aid until the economy improves.
It is insane to be putting funds into the pockets of corrupt politicians while people here are suffering so bad.
Yeah, that unemployment check is really a reward for me/sarc
Where does the Constitution authorize the federal government to manage unemployment insurance?
Yeah, everybody knows there’s millions of jobs just waiting for these people. The high unemployment rate exists only because these damn people refuse to work.
yeah, some people who are earning nothing take away something someone earned, good stuff
Rather than concentrating their efforts to help people find jobs, they are going after the Baseball Hall Of Fame....

Loud mouth dead beats should be not seen or heard.
Shouldn’t they focus on trying to get a job?
I know it is tough, but at least try and get something without getting picky as to what you want to do.
Jim Bunning is in the Baseball Hall of Fame because he is one of the greatest pitchers in history, politics has NOTHING to do with it.
So someone who spent $80,000 or so for a higher education should just take a job at McDonald’s?
Is that really what’s best? For anyone?
Even if things do eventually turn around, what is any potential employer going to say about your working at McDonald’s???? That is a career killer, yet is precisely what many here advocate. Or, to be more accurate, advocate that OTHERS do.

This outfit says right on their website that they are an arm of the IAM (Machinists’ union).
Grassroots organization, my ass.
At least the person was working and making something. It is better than a hole in the resume. In the meantime, the person should have saved money for a rainy day when he was making $80,000.
Also, he could move somewhere else if there is nothing in his area.
He is going to have to get a job and most likely take a pay cut doing something he is overqualified for.
Skills are lost sitting around doing nothing.
Maybe he moves and the spouse stays. Maybe they both move. Maybe sell the house and move into an apartment.
Hard and tough unlikable decisions have to be made. It is hard to fathom it, but that is reality. We all have to make them.
I look forward to getting a job.....because I’ve been told I can reward myself with the purchase of a new gun when I do;-)
