NASHVILLE -- Former Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore will join entertainer Dolly Parton and former senator Howard H. Baker Jr. as the only recipients of honorary degrees awarded by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
UT Board of Trustees voted to award Gore an Honorary Doctor of Laws and Humane Letters in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
"Vice President Gore's career has been marked by visionary leadership, and his work has quite literally changed our planet for the better," UTK Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek said.

If I were Dolly, I’d have to turn this down. If I were in the vicinity of Al Gore, I’d have to resist the urge to spit on him.

If I’m correct, Dolly Parton has actually contributed to the economy by creating a large number of jobs. How many people work at Dollywood, for instance?
I doubt Al Gore has done a tenth as much.

The title does not reflect the article (which is correct). Gore is receiving an honorary doctorate. Dolly Parton received on several years ago. Dolly has done a tremendous amount for her county, creating thousands of jobs and starting massive charity programs. She has been an excellent citizen who remembers where she came from.
Gore will be joining Dolly (and Howard Baker), who have already received their honorary doctorates.
Dolly is an entertainer. Al is a joke. There is a difference.

Not only has she created jobs, her music has given lasting joy. Al has provided us with an object of lasting scorn.

Must be “T & A” degree day at UT. One degree for the Ts, another one for the A.
