In the main thread — “8.8 Earthquake in Chili” — it was stated that THAT report about the 140 foot wave came from Twitter, and that it was an utterly unreliable source, and that furthermore, someone probably took a 40-foot wave and thought that it was a 40-meter wave, so quickly multiplied it by 3 to come up with 140-feet -— it’s a total inaccuracy; elsewise that news would be EVERYWHERE — I mean, when have we ever heard of a 140 foot ocean wave????
Luckily the reports are pretty wimpy so far at this point....only 8 feet fairly close to the epicenter.
This will not come close to the infamous Hilo tsunami and will barely even register as bad at all.
That said, anybody on the beach to maybe 100 feet could be swept away, so nobody should be on the beach.
Thanks. I got it from an e-mail I did not know where it originated.
