The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii and a tsunami advisory for the West Coast of the United States.
A NWS spokesman on CNN says it is estimated the tsunami waves will be 10 to 15 feet high when they hit Hawaii. The tsunmi waves could last up to six hours.
Recent buoy reports of wave heights vary from 5 to 16 feet.
Latest statement on Hawaii:
BULLETIN
TSUNAMI MESSAGE NUMBER 7
NWS PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER EWA BEACH HI
148 AM HST SAT FEB 27 2010
TO - CIVIL DEFENSE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII
SUBJECT - TSUNAMI WARNING SUPPLEMENT
A TSUNAMI WARNING CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII.
SNIP
EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010
The NWS has also issued a tsunami warning for most of the Pacific region:

Here is a local report on the West Coast tsunami advisory:
A tsunami advisory has been issued for the California coast, including Del Norte County, following a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the central coast of Chile at 10:34 p.m. PST Friday.
The forecasted arrival time for Crescent City is 1:46 p.m. PST Saturday, however tsunamis can be dangerous for many hours after arrival, and the initial wave is not necessarily the largest, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says.
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO AREAS WITHIN AND BORDERING THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND ADJACENT SEAS...EXCEPT ALASKA...BRITISH COLUMBIA... WASHINGTON...OREGON AND CALIFORNIA.

Please stay safe, Big Guy! I have been wondering if you were affected by this. Prayers for you and for all the people in Hawaii! (((hugs)))
So far as keeping posted on events of this type, you should ask Sunken Civ to put you on his Catastrophism ping list. I often comment there on things he posts.
What’s the outlook for Pearl Habor? My son’s stationed there....
Good luck guys.

Do you happen to have a link where I could see those? Thanks.
Damn even Santa Monica is affected..crazy stuff. Prayers for everyone involved
CNN has the best coverage right now, they are saying that the dolphins are being evacuated at a center?
If he is stationed onboard a ship, he will probably get underway or already has, they are much safer at sea. Most of the commands at Pearl are well above sea level and will be fine. Try not to worry, the USN knows what to do.
I just spoke with an old shipmate at Kaneohoe Bay, they are taking precautions, moving aircraft and such.
you even get the occasional plague of dumpster-diving reporters up there. Far worse than locusts.
I presume you are already aware of this.... but just in case, here's a *ping*

Oh, gawd. Dear Leader is to speak. *rolls eyes*
Thanks. He’s a “glow worm bubblehead” - nuke sub. They’ll probably go out and submerge, and won’t feel a thing.
Thanks!!!!! <3
Tell me about it! We saw the worst scum on earth invading our small town with cash bribes to dig up dirt on Sarah Palin, we had fake Vets sitting at the bar asking questions, it was really weird, like something out of occupied France and the Germans are searching for a Resistance leader.
Dr. at the Tsunami Center is saying that the wave passed Marcasas (sp?) and that the wave was NOT a catastrophic event. It might cause a little damage, but nothing to really fear. This is per KHON live-on-air interview.
