The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii and a tsunami advisory for the West Coast of the United States.
A NWS spokesman on CNN says it is estimated the tsunami waves will be 10 to 15 feet high when they hit Hawaii. The tsunmi waves could last up to six hours.
Recent buoy reports of wave heights vary from 5 to 16 feet.

BULLETIN
TSUNAMI MESSAGE NUMBER 7
NWS PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER EWA BEACH HI
148 AM HST SAT FEB 27 2010
TO - CIVIL DEFENSE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII
SUBJECT - TSUNAMI WARNING SUPPLEMENT
A TSUNAMI WARNING CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII.
SNIP
EVALUATION
A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.
A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.
THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS
1119 AM HST SAT 27 FEB 2010
The NWS has also issued a tsunami warning for most of the Pacific region:

Here is a local report on the West Coast tsunami advisory:
A tsunami advisory has been issued for the California coast, including Del Norte County, following a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the central coast of Chile at 10:34 p.m. PST Friday.
The forecasted arrival time for Crescent City is 1:46 p.m. PST Saturday, however tsunamis can be dangerous for many hours after arrival, and the initial wave is not necessarily the largest, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says.
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO AREAS WITHIN AND BORDERING THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND ADJACENT SEAS...EXCEPT ALASKA...BRITISH COLUMBIA... WASHINGTON...OREGON AND CALIFORNIA.

Very nice. Orange/lime margaritas. Interesting concept!
Maybe God’s grace intevened there too for many people there I don’t know.
THANKS! Can I have extra salt?! LOL
Glad I’m not the only one! LOLOLOL
Sounds like a plan to me! LOL
It works every time, GG! (I almost always order the second glass when I order the first.) I WANT SALT ON MY GLASS! LOL!!!
Maybe I should just drink... Is it tequila that you lick your hand, put salt on it, lick the salt off, and take a swig?! Not like I drink much anyway. I do enjoy a margarita occasionally.
Not sure, GG - I never did that - I just know that I want SALT on my margarita. (And I haven’t had one in at least six months. I think it is time.........)
Six months!? It’s prob been... 3 years? Guess I’m due!
You never did say - did you ever get your pizza?
Yes - was on this thread and started praying - as were I am sure MANY FReepers and many thousands around the world and I believe God intervened at just the right moment to stop what was going to be a disaster for Hawaii and California and who knows where else!
Praise His Holy Name forever!
Better safe than sorry.. so very glad the area did not get severe damage & glad precautions were taken. Thanks for report
LOL - yes Thank God!
(He intervened at just the right time today to prevent huge loss of life and of property - yes of course heart and prayers go out for all those in Chile! But God stopped the Tsunami right in its tracks!
He can calm the worst storms and the most violent seas!
Praise His Holy Name forever!
To all who survived the possible tsunami on February 27, 2010,
I CELEBRATE with you,
And am privately, giving thanks!

The National Weather Service reported at 3 p.m. that initial waves caused by the tsunami generated from the magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile have reached the North Coast and seem to be slightly smaller than anticipated.
Waves arrived about 30 minutes after their estimated 1 p.m. appearance in Humboldt Bay, where waves are reaching just a little over a foot in height.
It’s pretty much what we thought, Operations Officer Mel Nordquist said. It might be slightly below, but it’s in the ballpark.
In Crescent City, Harbormaster Richard Young said the waves have not been too rough so far. A majority of boats remain in the harbor, which Young said is OK at this point.
There’s no excitement, just small waves so far, Young said. We’ll just stand by and see what happens.
Humboldt State University geologist Lori Dengler said tsunami surges tend to build in amplitude in the first two hours of an event, but there will be very little to see.
It’s really subtle, Humboldt Bay really damps out tsunami energy, Dengler said, adding that at low tide — around 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. — the current will probably strengthen.
We tend to see that the tsunami will continue for the next five or six hours, maybe even longer. Sometimes tsunamis rattle around for maybe eight hours or more, she said.
Tsunami activity has been recorded up and down the coast, Dengler said.

There are no reports of damage and the waves were smaller than expected in Southern California. Hawaii, which was under a tsunami warning, has been experiencing slightly smaller waves than anticipated as well.
