My mom was a pretty basic woman. She decided she wanted to be nurse when she was 5. She met my dad when she was graduating nursing school.

She was a woman of God and a lifelong Lutheran.

I mean...she was a very Christian woman. I didn’t always appreciate that when I was younger. Not that she was stern or hard. She wasn’t.

She grew up and we lived in the Midwest. We knew some politicians and my parents (but mostly my father) was quite interested and involved in politics.

I don’t think my DAD always appreciated Mom’s faith. But when he went to work in DC (in the Reagan administration) Mom would be going to these Christian women’s gatherings.

Pretty soon, she had a good bunch of Christian friends.

I think my Dad was kind of stunned (as he was a political worker...and worked hard at the Department of Agriculture)...when he realized...

...that my little Mom. The one who went to DC kind of reluctantly....

was praying with the wives of Senators, White House people and the wives of the Joint Chiefs of Staff....

....in that circumstance...where DAD was the one with ideology and drive and skills...

Mom wound up nursing and having friends that were much higher up than Dad.

And she never touted that. For us all...people are people...whether they have political clout or not...it’s not your position...it’s your PERSONALITY and morals.

I still chuckle.

Mom had a brain tumor removed (which was a surprise discovery after YEARS of migraines)...in 1997 and the damage left her with a deficit of memory and a different personality.

She was still her. But she wasn’t the same...STILL she had a hardcore faith...she always demonstrated grace and love.

She did become pretty needy....but that was ok.

Anyway...I say...let’s DEFEAT this bill for MOM!

Great rallying cry!

Your mother sounds like a remarkable person. I’m sorry to hear about the brain tumor and the resulting personality changes; that’s very hard on everyone. But it seems if your mother was a woman of great faith and I am sure this helped through it all.

Let’s definitely defeat it for Mom!

What a blessing your mom was and still is. God made a prisoner second only to a pharoah, a shepherd boy into a king and your mom an example of a godly woman to people in high places, particularly the wives, aka hearts of homes, among others. We won’t know until Judgment Day how far-reaching her living testimony was.

A difficult time for all of you after the tumor, but what a glory it is to know that our Heavenly Father knew her soul and that the parting is only temporary. Thank you for sharing your inspirational mother with us, although my eyes are still blurry. : )
