Just like CBS did on Audi, and ABC did on Toyota, NBC hired some quack involved with plaintiff trial lawyers to rig a test. In this case, it was a crash test of a pickup with rocket motors strapped to the gas tank. NBC lied and said the truck had been scrapped. GM hired an investigator who tracked the truck down, with rockets still strapped to it. GM sued NBC for defamation and pulled its advertising. NBC read a a long, on-air apology.

And now you know why the news media has always run down GM.

I had not heard that story. Thanks for telling me. NBC, once a great broadcasting company, produces nothing but partisan, yellow journalism. They are despicable, and it’s sickening that other media closed ranks behind them and blackballed GM, not that I care about GM now. Their caving in to the UAW several years ago sealed their fate and lost my respect. They, too, were once a great company.

“... it was a crash test of a pickup with rocket motors strapped to the gas tank...”

No, not quite right.

The truck was stationary and a Estes like rocket motor was buried in the dirt below the trucks side mounted gas tank. A car was remotely driven into the side of the truck.

In slow motion video you could clearly see the rocket engine ignite - flames shooting upward from the ground.
