At a guess? The impact and fire from the aircraft weakened several floors below the point of impact. Eventually those floors gave way, at which point the already weakened tower had to cope with what amounted to a 15 story building being dropped on it from three stories up. Momentum of the top floors collapsed the rest of the tower.
An engineer? No, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Hmmmmm.... I thought the impact/blast blew the very fragile fireproofing of the steel support members. Then the burning jet fuel and bldg contents heated the exposed steel sufficiently that it couldn’t support all the floors above the fire. This seems pretty legitimate to me, what’s the problem with it anyone?

I saw a documentary years ago that explained and illustrated the construction of the towers, and exactly how the impacts caused them to weaken and collapse. It was so clear that a nontechnical person like me found it easy to understand. The only “lingering” question is for people who reject the facts and insist there’s some sort of conspiracy.

Ok ok, I did it.
We spent weeks wiring the whole building with explosives. It took 50 miles of blast wire and about 5,000 pounds of explosives. We drilled out the main support columns in between the desks of office workers and told them just to ignore and keep working. We then told them not to touch the yellow wires we weaved all through the two buildings.
It was a big job but we got `er done,

Ahh not this crap again. Why is it the idiot “truthers” never question why the walls and roof of the Pentagon collapsed?

Let’s say for the sake of discussion these people have legitimate questions
Then I would how ask did Bush coordinate this will Al Q?
Did osama send him a memo ?
OR was Al Q not even involved at all but just took credit, that Bush planned it all?
OR did Bush plant explosives in every likely building including the Capitol? and has since removed the eplosives
