Glenn Beck Rips Republicans in CPAC Show-Stopper
Politics Daily ^ | 2/20/10 | Patricia Murphy

Glenn Beck, the Fox News personality and chalkboard scrawling libertarian hero, gave the marquee speech Saturday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Swapping out a teleprompter for his famous chalkboard, Glenn Beck wowed the faithful with an hour-long presentation that defended conservatism, praised the Founding Fathers and lampooned Washington, D.C. as an addict in need of immediate treatment. He looked to history to predict that without an immediate course correction and reduction of the federal budget deficit, America is headed for "an economic holocaust." Beck began by praising Ronald Reagan, whose famous campaign ad "Morning in America" envisioned America's best days as still being ahead of it. "It is still morning in America," Beck said. "It just happens to be kind of a head-pounding, hung-over, vomiting for four hours kind of morning in America. And it's shaping up to be kind of a nasty day, but it is still morning in America."

Beck blamed Washington politicians for the country's poor condition, and accused both parties of growing the size of government, spending beyond the country's means, tolerating corruption, and embracing an array of liberal policy prescriptions that he equated with a cancer in American society.

Republicans, he said, are just as guilty as Democrats. "It's not enough just to not suck as much as the other side," he said. "The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I have not heard people in the Republican Party admit they have a problem and when I did hear them say they have a problem, I don't know if I believed them."

The Republicans' problem, he said, is the same as Democrats' problem-- an addiction to spending, a willingness to place the judgment of the government ahead of the rights of individuals,

I say, at least someone is saying it and showing it. Besides Levin, which I believe needs to be listened to by everyone, Beck is the only one who uses some creative thinking to express his opinions. Look at Hannity, the guy is a Robo-point spreader for the GOP. Sometimes I feel Newt owns him. Whether I agree with someone or not, I'd rather argue with someone who can argue then someone who only spews talking points. Try arguing with someone who debates based on a news article rather then research. It is annoying.

I disagree.

It is past time for apologies and ass kissing.

All the Republican Party needs to do is present a program, NOW, to roll back socialism.

Nothing the Republicans did even comes close to what Reid, Pelosi and Obama have forced on us.

The Republican Party is our ONLY hope!

Yes, fight in the Primaries for the best candidate we can get -— but the bottom line is that we have to kick the Dems out of power.

Name a “good” Democrat that you would not vote out of office?

That's not good enough.

We need to raise the bar, and not accept the bare minimum.

Nope...tonight one alleged Ron Paul supporter just suggested we all read Global Ministries Roy May. Howard Zinn cloaked in the Christian faith. Liberation theology blasphemy. It never ends I guess.

He cannot seriously make a wholesale swipe and fault all Republicans in saying they’re equally as bad as the Democrats.

You are right. Pubbies did such a great job from 2000-2006. And the Pubbies continue to "go along to get along" You should lose respect for the scumbags in congress not someone who points their failures and lack of will.

Voting for a Republican just because he is not a Democrat gets the country DEAD in 12 years. In 2022, the money we have to pay to service our debt.....just pay the interest on it, will be equal to the tax revenue projected. IOW, IMPOSSIBLE to survive as a nation. It is time to take over a party as true conservatives, and cut spending by 2/3rds. Radically change the taxing structure, to get away from income taxes, and observe the spirit AND the letter of the Constitution. Will Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, or Hucklesberry do that?

Glenn’s speech was a masterpiece! Absolute masterpiece. I’m so tired of Democrats using bad Republican policy to further the exact same policy while saying, “Even Bush supported.....” or, “Even McCain supports.....” or, “Even Graham supported.....” It’s nauseating to constantly have to explain to others that, even though those Republicans supported it, it wasn’t right. Glenn laid it out perfectly that those in our own party have been on the wrong side of the exact same issues. Only with admitting our being wrong with all of the compromising for political favors, can we move on and never be on the wrong side of the Constitution again. Only then, when the voters are presented with a clear difference - the Constitutional difference, can we retake America and bring it back to the way it was founded.

Supporters of Dr. Paul would be better advised to have people read Barry Goldwater. I was a Democrat in 1964, and a couple of years later I happened to pick up his book. I already knew he was not the lunatic he had been called, but I said to myself, well, this is not at all what I expected.

The problem with the system of govt we have is that it takes constant safeguarding and is dependent on man and his innate skills or judgments. This country can easily run on autopilot, if the federal Constitution was followed to the letter, and Congress was tying paper money value to precious metals. Just think how hard it would be to inflate currency artificially. The result would be obvious and immediately so to citizens John and Joan Doh’. The reason the system is dependent on this adversarial system of D’s and R’s, because it empowers those in positions of authority, and enslaves the true sovereigns.

Beck has no roots, knowledge or appreciation of Republicans.

I heard Beck’s radio program today when he was discussing a long dinner meeting he had with one of the wealthiest men in the world. He did not state who it was, but from questions he asked of the man, it must have been George Soros.

Talk about fatal vision. It was a doozee.

Beck has no roots, knowledge or appreciation of Republicans.

Are you nuts? Did you even watch the speech?

He said "healthcare, housing and handouts are NOT 'rights'". He bashed PROGRESSIVISM, and folks in either party who embraced it. Mostly Dems, but yes also Teddy Roosevelt, with a superb Marxist quote pulled right from him. He praised Coolidge for his tax and spending cuts which geneated maasive economic growth and blamed Progressives and some of their GOP tools (yes, including the wretched Hoover) for the follwing economic collapse.

Beck's Conservative ideas will strengthen the Republican party--if they listen.

My main beef with the Beckster is how loosely he throws around the phrase “Republicans are JUST AS BAD as the Democrats.” As bad as they are (and I’m an Independent), they’re the only thing standing between our current state of misery and TOTAL FASCISM.

Exactly. And the faults are not of the Republican Party but with Republican and conservative voters. LA Times had an article last week on how the Tea Party is taking over the GOP from the inside. In precinct after precinct 60%, 70% even 80% of the precinct committee slots were empty. These are the people who write the platform, elect county leaders and often endorse candidates. Vegas had 200 precinct committee members a year ago. Now it has 1000. That is what has to be done all over the country. The command center is not occupied. All conservatives have to do is walk in and seize it.

LA TIMES: 'Tea party' activists filter into GOP at ground level
