Glenn Beck Rips Republicans in CPAC Show-Stopper
Politics Daily ^ | 2/20/10 | Patricia Murphy

Glenn Beck, the Fox News personality and chalkboard scrawling libertarian hero, gave the marquee speech Saturday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Swapping out a teleprompter for his famous chalkboard, Glenn Beck wowed the faithful with an hour-long presentation that defended conservatism, praised the Founding Fathers and lampooned Washington, D.C. as an addict in need of immediate treatment. He looked to history to predict that without an immediate course correction and reduction of the federal budget deficit, America is headed for "an economic holocaust." Beck began by praising Ronald Reagan, whose famous campaign ad "Morning in America" envisioned America's best days as still being ahead of it. "It is still morning in America," Beck said. "It just happens to be kind of a head-pounding, hung-over, vomiting for four hours kind of morning in America. And it's shaping up to be kind of a nasty day, but it is still morning in America."

Beck blamed Washington politicians for the country's poor condition, and accused both parties of growing the size of government, spending beyond the country's means, tolerating corruption, and embracing an array of liberal policy prescriptions that he equated with a cancer in American society.

Republicans, he said, are just as guilty as Democrats. "It's not enough just to not suck as much as the other side," he said. "The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I have not heard people in the Republican Party admit they have a problem and when I did hear them say they have a problem, I don't know if I believed them."

The Republicans' problem, he said, is the same as Democrats' problem-- an addiction to spending, a willingness to place the judgment of the government ahead of the rights of individuals,

Jon Huntsman.

Had never heard of him. My statement was based on when he mentioned surviving this mess. Something was said that likened current circumstances to a Jew in Nazi Germany prior to WWII. I have heard about Soros's collaboration record. For that reason I assumed it was Soros.

Thanks for observation. Jon Huntsman makes sense, after I looked at his background. The LDS connection would explain it.

I will look for a transcript if one is available. I normally do not listen to Beck, but was traveling and listening to talk radio.

This particular program left me very uneasy about the economic mess. It foretold a slow sky-is-falling collapse. He felt the worst is coming in possibly a year. But said no one could know the outcome of this one for sure.

Yep, none of us can predict the future.

For those who think there is no similarities to the two parties are forgetting that for years the GOP thought it could survive by going along with the Democrat party just to get along with the Democrat party. It's a philosophy borne of so-called mavericks like John McCain.

Little do they realize that such bi-partisan outreach has negative consequences.  When you reach across the aisle, the Democrats break your arm off and when you walk across the aisle they cap your knee.

I'd rather the GOP were the party of no, because anything else is just a conduit to advance Socialism.

How can you say that? Beck keeps pointing out how stupid the GOP is. He keeps them honest. Last nigth speech was a rallying call for all conservatives to hold the GOP to the values of America.
So he should just keep toting the RINO line and keep getting the same old Spectors, Collins and Snowe Republicans elected just because they are republicans and never mind the fact that they are /were pro abortion, pro big spending? If you stand for that, then the GOP dont need you. America dont need you. Join the Paulites and start your own third party. We will take back the GOP and you can just wallow.

As someone who voted for Perot TWICE... and, came pretty close to abstaining rather than voting for McCain this last go round... though, would cut off my right arm [ok, maybe, just a finger] to get ZER0 out of the White House TODAY!!! If the best the GOP can come up with in 2012 is the same old why-can’t-we-all-just-get-along milk toast candidates they always do... point me at the 3rd party conservative, PLEASE! At least I’ll go broke with dignity.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, I watch all news channels to find out what is happening in the political arena known as Washington. Glenn Beck is correct in his accessment of BOTH parties. I have always been a Republican and supported them financially, but after the last few years of stupidity in Washington, I am now an Independent. The Republican party has been hijacked by people who have their own agenda, and it does not include the wishes of the American people. The Democrats have always been that way. Their idea of getting elected is to give the “people” more and more entitlements, i.e., the Stimulus Bill, the Healthcare Bill, and the Jobs Bill which is actually Stimulus II. Glenn Beck is the one exposing the corruption in BOTH parties, especially the Obama administration.
We as a nation will NEVER get out of debt if the spending is not stopped, and Beck is out front condemning the Democrats for passing bill after bill spending more and more of OUR money needlessly. Bush was wrong passing the TARP bill and should be chastised for that, but Obama is spending TRILLIONS for programs, Stimulus Package, Healthcare, Stimulus II that do not and will not work. Do you really think that the Healthcare bill will help the average American? NO. We will be “forced” to pay for insurance for the uninsured. Beck is correct is questioning the Constitutionality of this bill.
Was it Constitutional for the government to take over auto companies and give the majority of the stock to the Unions? NO. Was it Constitutional for the government to take over the Banking industry? NO. Again, Glenn Beck is correct is condemning both parties for their complacent “Oh well” attitude. The American people should start voting for the person who more closely mimics their ideals, i.e., cut spending, cut goverment, cut subsidies to every organization, i.e., ACORN, with their hand out, cut taxes for small businesses. These things will correct the economy and create jobs.
Promises are cheap and broken immediately after the election.

He has NEVER said all Republicans and you know it. He has named names several times. He has Republicans on his show constantly. So get off THE, "he is slamming all Republicans." There are a whole bunch that need to go. Newt, Lindsey, Olympia, John McCain, you want me to keep going? What is it really that upsets you about Glenn?

Mormon?

His passionate delivery?

the number of people he has moved to conservatism?

Your a birther?

You fat fingered your favorites and meant to go to DU?

Glenn Beck has done more for conservatism than just about anybody right now (except Rush and Mark Levin)and he is doing a wonderful job sticking it to the present administration. He helped a ton with the TEA party movement and still does to this day.

To make a long story short, "Lighten up Francis".

Beck was right in that speech.

GOP has been the party of SPEND too much for the last 3 decades.

DEMS are the party of raise taxes and SPEND too much since FDR.

Screw the ‘big tent’ crap. Get rid of the RINO’s! Elect CONSERVATIVES!!!

"just as bad"

The problem with Beck's phrase "just as bad" is that it's an outright lie. Virtually all Pubbies have opposed Obama's grandiose, socialist spending plans. I'd like to ask Beck how does close to one hundred opposition to Obama's increased spending make them the same? Sure, criticism of past overspending by Pubbies is thoroughly warranted. But when he tries to make the claim that both parties are the same, he's off his rocker.

By the way, I like Beck. It's just that success has gone to his head a tad. Add to that: nobody is right about everything.

I noticed he didn’t mention word one about anything but the money as it seems most so called conservative don’t these days. So in reality it is all about the money. The Golden Calf. Our culture, social mores, ethnicity/race religion and all that makes us who were are, or were perhaps, has nothing to do with anything to these so called conservatives. Why would I support those who not only don’t support me and mine but actually support polices that work to undermine and destroy us??

"I feel sorry for the 15-20 percent of Republican politicians look bad because of the majority. For instance, how many Republican Senators/Congressmen voted against:..."

The 'good' Republicans never take on the 'bad' Republicans. They support the bad ones and go along with it. That makes almost all of them 'bad' Republicans in my book.

You have Bush/Santorum and the RNC back Arlen Specter against Pat Toomey. It was vital to keep that seat in the R column. Really? How did that work out?

We are drowning in an ocean of red ink. Be it the federal budget, social security, medicare, the states, whatever. It doesn’t help to just slow the increase in debt, it needs to be reversed. If Republicans get offended because they are being implicated in this, too bad.

LOL, "your" a genius?

Glenn Beck has done more for conservatism than just about anybody right now (except Rush and Mark Levin)and he is doing a wonderful job sticking it to the present administration. He helped a ton with the TEA party movement and still does to this day.

Beck is a libertarian, while Rush and Levin are conservatives, although I would call Levin a Constitutionalist or an Originalist.

Beck is a third party advocate, while Rush and Levin believe we need to take the Republican party back from the RINOs.

The Republicans of course have had success over the past year or so uniting against Obama's extreme agenda, but of course the Republican party won't be completely fixed until it can set a conservative, originalist based agenda.

I don't believe Beck is on board for going the take-back-the-Republican-party, route.
