Tiger Turns To Buddhism To Turn Life Around [Rebuking Fox's Brit Hume?]

Tiger Turns To Buddhism To Turn Life Around Apologetic golf star vows to use religion to bring ‘balance’ to his ways

In the theater of American public apologies, it’s common for celebrities to invoke their faith. Disgraced golf superstar Tiger Woods did it Friday, in fact, with a twist. He cited the role of Buddhism in his life — and will look to it to help him recover from serial infidelity.

“People probably don’t realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years,” Woods said during Friday’s televised apology, his first public appearance in nearly three months. It was Woods’ most direct reference to his beliefs yet.

In a few previous interviews, Woods said he had practiced meditation and had attended temple with his mother. He has credited her, and her Thai Buddhism, with giving him the focus needed on the golf course and throughout his life.

His latest comments reflected the Buddhist teachings about desire, craving and attachment — and balance.

“In therapy I’ve learned the importance of looking at my spiritual life and keeping in balance with my professional life,” Woods said. “I need to regain my balance and be centered so I can save the things that are most important to me, my marriage and my children.”

Brit Hume made clear the way to true forgiveness.

Too bad Tiger's rejecting it.

Tiger the buddhist goes up to a hot dog vendor and says,
“Make me one with everything,”
and gives the vendor a $20.00 bill.

He gets his dog and waits.
Finally he says, “Where’s my change?”
The vendor replies, “Change comes from within.”

He has put on weight. His face was puffy and reminded me of steroid users. Also, there are pictures of how his body has changed.

The whole presentation on Friday was odd, the audience like zombies. And he had Mom there! After he hugged Mom, he hugged some woman.

Hundred to one it won’t work and he’ll be back to his old ways

The fiction of the cycle of re-incarnation taking animal forms from snakes to baboons impels the query what caused the Tasmanian Devil to be born one? I think both Buddhism and Hinduism share this creed.

I don't think this was a slap at Brit. I think what he said was commendable. But, my guess is, it's all head knowledge, what he knows to be true, but, doesn't necessarily believe it in his heart. Until it gets to his heart, he will not change. I'm old enough to know, it's very difficult to change anything about yourself in any significant way. The only way I've ever changed in my life in a signifacant way, has been through my relationship with Jesus Christ.

And I've always had questions about reincarnation. This is what I understand about it. With reincarnation, you keep coming back until you get it right and are then absorbed into the Universe, correct? If this is true, then why is the population of the world increasing, instead of decreasing? The other thing that's always bothered me is karma. If you come back and have a hard life, it's because you were bad in your last life. If you come back rich, famous...ect. It's because you deserve it because you were good. I think with this line of thinking it would make you feel, like you deserve it, very ego boosting, your all that on a stick. And it would make you less likely to help anyone who's down and out, after all, they deserve it.

"he hugged some woman. "

That woman was apparently one of his Nike reps, from what I heard on ESPN, FWIW.

All life, not just human.

I think you picked it — steroids and weight gain. He didn’t look “fit” to me.

Wrong.

Buddhism has many sects, and I do not know which one Tiger embraces.

If it's the faith from his mother, it's probably Theravada, the oldest sect.

Meh! If he was REALLY devout, he'd follow the example of the Buddhist monks during the Vietnam War.

yes and that is a good thing. the other life although energizing for him was false, addictive energy. he has calmed back into himself and hopefully if he stays on a path of recovery we will see a calm, balanced, integrity based, energetic man who looks decades younger than his years--eventually.

He has absorbed the hit that he so desperately deserved and created for himself. This is the toughest part and it means it hit him right where it was supposed to--in his soul. That is the only place that can change to change his situation going forward.

May he be on the proper course and may he stay there over his lifetime.

Yes, but, that's not how many westerners believe. I've never once heard them say they might have been an insects, or animal.

Why would you help someone if you believe in karma. After all they deserve it. Wouldn't you be going against karma by helping?
