A Texas Senator, Now a Challenger Lagging in Polls
JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr. February 20, 2010
DALLAS Just a year ago, many Republican leaders considered Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to be the odds-on favorite to become the next governor of Texas. A popular lawmaker from the old-guard Republican establishment, she was seen as someone who could widen the partys appeal after the setbacks it suffered during the 2008 national election.
Back then, the incumbent, Gov. Rick Perry, appeared vulnerable, having won a four-way re-election fight in 2006 and having hitched himself to the most conservative wing of the Republican Party.
But the political winds have shifted for Ms. Hutchison in the last few months, and she now finds herself far behind in the polls, as Mr. Perry has managed to surf a wave of anger here over President Obamas policies.
Never has a race for governor in Texas so clearly defined the difference between the country-club wing of the Republican Party, where elite business leaders sit astride the financial engines of Dallas and Houston, and the populist Reagan Republicans, talk-radio-fueled voters who are upset about issues like budget deficits, gun control and legalized abortion.
In a sense, Mr. Perry is the embodiment of white, conservative Democrats from the South who switched parties after Ronald Reagans presidency. The son of a West Texas rancher, he was an Air Force pilot before he won a Statehouse seat as a Democrat in 1984. He has never lost a race since.
Ms. Hutchison, who was first elected to the Senate in 1993, has rallied most of the Republican establishment behind her. Former President George Bush has endorsed her, as has former Vice President Dick Cheney.

How do you retract something you say you heard?
No, I have no link to share as I’m not getting roasted on here again! Ha! Walked into that one already when someone asked me for a link.
But you’ll have to find it on youtube.
It is called honor.
Something that all gossips lack.
Read the actual script and show me where she said any of this..you can’t so you resort to name calling and other low brow tactics. You don’t have to destroy the process or the person when you can compete in the arena of ideas. Give it a try some time. You’ll sleep better.
I am not a Ron Paul supporter...I am just someone that would like to see people on this site actually use references and exchange ideas rather than misleading blurbs and talking points for this candidate or that.
If we destroy the process for the sake of the candidate we are still lost. The “ends justify the means” strategies that the supporters of Perry and KBH are using on this site is ridiculous. If that is what it takes to win in politics today, then the system is in need of a major overhaul. An overhaul that will not be accomplished by voting in the same people year after year.
Voting in any truthers is only going to push America further to the left and I will not be a party to it.
Both Ron Paul and Debra Medina are truthers and liars. The fact that other politicians also lie doesn’t mitigate this fact. Medina hasn’t stopped lying from the first time her head popped out of the sand. The fact that they are truthers is the final strike against them.
The first lie out of their mouths is that they are Republicans. The second is that they are Conservatives.
Medina needs to be politically destroyed. I have only known about her as a candidate for a short time and am appalled by the gross number of lies she has told.
She almost has Obama beaten for shear volume.
Again...can you give me a source? Can you point to this myriad of lies?
Not again.
I and others have pointed them out a hundred times and I am simply not going to do it again. Especially since not one single bot has done anything but disagreed after hearing Medina’s own lying words or run off and asked someone else to supply the same proof repeatedly.
I will not be exercised by one more lazy truther or truther supporter.
Once again I’ll stick to what Jim said:
“Ron Paul and his flaming antiwar spam monkeys can Kiss my Ass!! Jim Robinson, 09/30/07”
You don’t have any sources...you are a fraud.
Medina is, by her own admission, a truther nutcase.
The fact that she tried to deny this after she realized
the damage is totally irrelevant. She is toast.
Deservedly so.
Back to bedpans for you, Debra!
That's not a response, it's called "damage control".
She is a Ron Paul truther nutcase and unfit to hold any office.
Are you on some type of drug or something? Otherwise where in the world would you even entertain the idea Sarah Palin is a truther? Also, please explain what re-investigation she might be interested in concerning September 11th?
Why wouldn't she be a Perry supporter? Out of all of the R candidates such as Hutchison and Medina, you'd have a problem with her support of Perry? Perry has gotten behind the tea party on more than one occasion. Remember, he did bring up Texas's right to secede.
Why didn't you do a little research before coming online and posting one of the most idiotic posts I've seen in a while.
Every time Medina says she is not a truther it is another lie. Ending gun registration in Texas? Another whopper! She is also going to close the border? Pandering to illegal aliens is all she has done. Another lie.
If you cannot understand this why should I repost what has been posted repeatedly?
I’ll answer that myself. I won’t do it.
If you cannot already see that Medina is a truther and a liar you never will. Thank goodness people like you only get one vote and you are not convincing anyone else to support your favorite fruitbat either.
Are you supposed to be in restraints?
Rolls eyes at the rider of the short bus...........
LOL! Response after she choked on both feet and then went on to say that no Police Officers died on 9/11.
What a joke!
