I haven’t heard anyone ask “Where the hell were the flight attendants?”. They should have made him put his seat up for takeoff. A passenger shouldn’t have to be the one that enforces the rules.

Gordy says that after the plane pulled away from the gate, he put a jacket over his head and was trying to go to sleep when he felt "too upright." After he reclined his seat, he says, he heard Romney say repeatedly and loudly, "Sir, sir, put your seat up."

If in fact the seat reclining occurred after the plane pulled away from the gate, the flight attendants were probably strapped into their crew seats for take-off. Romney probably figured he'd save them the trouble of getting up to deal with the issue, since he was in a position to ask the jerk to put his seat back up, without having to get out of his seat.

The flight attendants were already strapped in their seats as the plan was moving down the runway getting ready to take off. I’m sure Romney was trying to avoid having to call the attendants at such a time and was trying to handle the situation himself. Normally, with an ordinary person — not a spoiled rapper related to Berry Gordy — that course of action would have worked.
