I suspect that is what he is considering.

Hussein may be politically disemboweled by 2012.

My thought as well. He resigns, a Republican takes his seat, the GOP picks up 6 seats and Obama is an ineffective sitting duck. Bayh, sitting on $13M, begins rebuilding the fractured Democrats from the 'political center' of their party and challenges Obama in the primary.

Time to order up some more popcorn.

I agree. It would be hard to run for President fresh on the heels of a political defeat. He is getting out to lay low for a 2012 run.
