Bye bye, Evan Bayh:
Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh will not seek re-election this year, a decision that hands Republicans a prime pickup opportunity in the middle of the country.
After all these years, my passion for service to my fellow citizens is undiminished, but my desire to do so by serving in Congress has waned, Bayh will say.
Bayh will announce the decision at a press conference later today.

4 days until tomorrow???? Ya gotta explain that one to me.
It’s Surreal Monday doncha know.
Its gonna be a looooong day?
Counting in dog days ??
This was supposed to be one of the Dems safest seats (not including HI,MD and a few others) Safer than NY. The moderate part of the Dem party plus some libs are just quitting,
I think the thugocracy in DC is worse than we realize. I think a lot of these folks are horrified and just want out. It must be pretty bad because all of them have swallowed a lot for a lot of years.
I’m getting nervous, very nervous, about all of these Senators and Congresspeople “retiring.” Suddenly, they’re willling to give up their power and prestige after fighting to hold on to it election after election. NOW they no longer want to “serve” their constituents? I worry because I wonder what they know that the rest of us do not.
4 days until tomorrow??? Perhaps leap year. Or Chinese new year.
No, that would be 7 days until tomorrow. Could be werewolf days, though, as that's roughly halfway between human and dog days.
After all these years, my passion for service to my fellow citizens is undiminished, but my desire to do so by serving in Congress has waned, Bayh will say.”Therefore I will
be running for dog catcher of my small home town to better
serve the citizens of my area.”
Maybe Bayh was actually doing something patriotic by quitting 4 days before hand. The moderates must thing Hussein and his thugs will bankrupt and destroy America.
This puts a new dimension on things. Something must have recently happened to prompt the retirement decision. Otherwise, you’d think he would have given the Dem party more than four days to find a replacement.
Does Bayh keep his political funds?
The deadline to file to reach the ballot is Friday, meaning any Dem considering running for the seat must make a decision quickly.
I'm guessing this is the primary filing deadline. It would be fun to find somebody with a famous name to file just to force the party bosses to spend money educating their dull-witted voter base to rubberstamp their selection.
I kind of wonder if they aren’t quitting because they see Obama going off the rails and don’t want to get caught in the middle of it when he’s carried out of office.
What’s the other shoe and when’s it gonna fall ?
