“Maybe - Illinois, Wisconsin
Lucky - NY Gillibrand, Cali, Washington
No Way - NY Schumer, Connecticut, etc”
I think Illinios, Wisconsin, and NY-Gillibrand are going to flip.
Please do not brick or zot me for saying this, but I want the Dems to hold the majority in both the House and Senate but with neutered margins. If your progonstications come true and only two of my three, then we get +9 in the Senate. That leaves it at 50-50 with the Ds still in charge, but they may as well forget about passing anything significant. Heck, a simple gain of +4 in the Senate is about all we need.
In the house, I’d like to see something like a +35 swing for Republicans. Yes, the idiots remain in charge, but, again, this effectively neutralizes Pelosi (I’d like to see her step down WITH the Dems in charge personally ... what a blow to her ego that would be).
In this case, Obama still cannot blame anyone but Bush for his failures. The Ds are “still in charge” in congress. This keeps all fingers pointed at Obama as he has basically made himself in “completely in charge” with these majorities in congress.
If the Republicans take back either the House or Senate, you may as well replace the word “Bush” with either “House” or “Senate”. I wouldn’t be unhappy if we won both, but any scenario where Obama does not have complete control gives Obama a boogeyman to blame in the 2012 elections (people will have forgotten 2009-2011 assuming nothing spectacular happens between now and then).
We need just a simple majority in the House to literally BAN the Democrats from the floor.
Two reasons why winning the majority in the house is important:
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Former Chairman Barney Frank.
I get what you’re saying...we need enough seats to stop them but not so many as to have to let them put the blame for their failed policies on us in any way, shape, or form, until we can vote Biggie BO out of office in ‘12. (wow, that’s possibly the longest sngle sentence I’ve ever written! LOL)
No brick or zot - in fact I agree with you completely, for those same “Blame Bush” reasons you elucidate. I would like GOP to stop at 49 seats in the Senate, setting us up for 2012. Dums hold (something like) a 24-10 advantage in 2012 seats, so it will be a very target rich environment. When Obummer is being run out of office in 2 years, he will drag a lot of others Dumocrats along on his coattails.
Regarding your suggestions, I don’t trust Illinois to elect a Republican quite yet; and, if Tommy Thompson announces or if it was in Scott Walker’s plans, I’d bump up Wisconsin.
Regarding NY (where I live), if Pataki steps up to take on Gillibrand I would bump up that seat to at least a “maybe”. Also, I spoke with a high-profile NY GOP insider yesterday who surprised me by saying Larry Kudlow is likely to take on Chuck Schumer - if that happens I will bump up that race as well. With the potential of Harold Ford duking it out with Gillibrand, Cuomo taking on Patterson in a primary fight for Governor, and Kudlow taking a real fight to Schumer, NY politics could be exciting this year in a way that precedes my memory!! Bring it!!
One reason why winning a majority in the Senate is important:
Holding a Majority on the Judiciary Committee can stop the appointment of Progressives to the Federal bench and the Supreme Court.
Larry Kudlow might be a force if he gets in....it'd be sooooo sweet to see Schumer fall.
