With early voting about to commence in the March 2 gubernatorial primaries, Gov. Rick Perry holds a commanding lead over his two Republican rivals, but he may be unable to avoid a runoff, according to a newly released poll for the Star-Telegram and other major Texas newspapers.

The survey shows Perry with 45 percent support among likely Republican voters, while 29 percent back U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Wharton County businesswoman Debra Medina had 17 percent, drawing especially strong support from the Fort Worth metropolitan region, where she is running ahead of Hutchison but behind Perry.

Perry leads Hutchison 40 percent to 20 percent in the three-county Fort Worth region, with Medina running second with 26 percent in the heavily Republican area.

Yeah—I pretty much agree. She certainly no longer has my vote.

The support for Rand Paul on here has me shaking my head. How can you call yourself a conservative and support him? Makes no sense to me at all!

I guess people are easily fooled. But, I'm proud to be supporting the conservative in the race, Bill Johnson. Word from the Bluegrass state is that Johnson won the debate yesterday and the number of donations has jumped over the last 24 hours. Hope it's true, he's a great candidate.

Bill Johnson for US Senate

Her justifications were purely political opportunism ... she wants to run for President and thought she needed to build her resume.

True, but if she beats KBH, Perry will have to notice that there is more than a little discontent with the swineherd and his herd in Austin.

I am a skeptic by nature but the cop didn’t start out with the story. We only got into it after small talk. We both had long layovers. First of all, he is behind security so he is not cruising airport bars looking for a sap especially since everyone is leaving and heading all over the place.

He was truly heart-broken and ended up close to tears. There would be no reason, that I can come up with, to fake a story like that so I take him at his word. These were the men that reported to him.

He was a strong, confident guy but he had a dark secret and I think he just wanted to let it out. Why not do it with a guy in business attire at an airport bar.

The truly unnerving thing is that it seems no one — no one in the media, and no one in the GOP — thought to ask such simple questions before Beck. Was she vetted at all, in any way?

It's not up to the party to "approve" the people who choose to be candidates for the party's nomination. And they're not going to make a stink about somebody who's off the reservation -- if they don't appear to be serious contenders. Which describes Medina, until just recently.

This affair is, instead, a slap in the face to the Texas MSM. It's their job to ask revealing questions.

However, to date, the Texas MSM has been happy to not only softball, but promote, Medina -- because she represented a conceivable threat to the GOP establishment candidates that they deeply detest.

The Dallas Morning News, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Houston Chronicle, the Austin American-Statesman and the San Antonio Express-News just didn't do their job. As we're accustomed to, in any case.

That thought has kept crossing my mind they want the weakest candidate to go against White. Why cannot people on here see that?

I grew up in Ohio and have been hearing good things about Johnson from friends back there. Glad to hear his debate went so well and money is starting to come into his campaign.

It was the poll taken between Feb. 2-10 for several of the state papers [DMN, American Statesman, Fort Worth Star Telegram, San Antonio Express] and maybe others. The info I posted here come from the article in the American Statesman story written late last night which I posted earlier this morning. That thread got a lot of action, some 150 comments. The Houston Chronicle also had an article on it today but I did’t post or link to it.

And the data was taken before Medina did the interview with Beck. So that fiasco and it’s impact isn’t figured into the data.

Here’s a link to the Houston Chronicle article:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Well, the Ron Paul/Medina mob kept barraging Beck with phone calls to have Medina on until he did. He had many calls from viewers asking him to ask her if she was a 'truther'. He did. Now, they are blaming Beck and Perry for 'sand-bagging' her.

I don't believe for a minute that she was 'set up'- but what if she was? At least we got a deal-breaker bit of info that could save us from disaster. Putting up 'truther' Medina against the Democratic candidate would be suicide.

“That's not the question I heard,” Medina said. She said she thought he was asking about whether citizens should question their government. SAY WHAT?? How plain did Beck have to make it? It was a simple question; do you or do you not believe our government was responsible for 9/11?? All she had to do- as any rational, sane person would do- is answer a simple 'no'.

This idea that Beck (or anybody else) sabotaged Medina is absurd. If you can’t answer “did the govt have anything to do with the 9/11 attacks?” you're not be fit to run for dogcatcher.

For God's sake, have any of you really looked into her platform- her background? Has this woman even been vetted?

She wants legalized drugs.

She is for abortion

She backs gay marriage.

She has not spoken to her elderly parents for YEARS. They had to find out she was runing for governor of Texas by reading the newspaper!

http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/medina-hailing-from-beeville-learned-political-skills-on-229907.html?srcTrk=RTR_95609 What does this say about this woman's character? And rumors are begin to surface about husband Noe's past associations.

Take a look at some of the statements she has made: "It’s a shame isn’t it, that Republicans continue to ignore Hispanics especially here in Texas?’

"Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family?”

"Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture.”

"I believe we too often get into race when it’s immaterial.” (Obummer, is that you?)

I don't believe for one minute Medina's propaganda about wanting to strengthen the border! La Raza probably has her in their back pocket!

Glenn Beck has once again helped the tea-party stay in the Republican mainstreamby by weeding out dangerous fringe thinkers like Medina.

Medina is NOT representative of the Tea Party movement. She USED them- latched herself on to them. She’s a hard core Libertarian who has realized that the Libertarian Party will never win anything and that the only possible way to get herself into office is to do what Ron Paul did and wrap herself in the Republican cloak in hopes that it will fool enough of the voters enough of the time. Thank God Glen Beck outed her in time.

Retrieve your sombrero from the ring and go home Senora Medina. You're Texas toast.

The Beck interview had no impact on my decision. I had already emphatically decided that I wasn’t going to vote for Medina. Too much Ron Paul, too little substance.

Exactly!

And the only reason she's even on the Republican ticket is that the Libertarians know there's no chance of anyone winning on the (L) ticket.

OK has been loaded with Paulbots running for precincts chairs to take over the State Party but the way we are set up it will be impossible. Once SCOTUS ruled OK can keep its closed primaries and 3rd party/Indy cannot vote in our primary, the Libs aka Paulbots went into the GOP and are trying to take over following Paul’s lead when he went from Lib to GOP to win.

It is also a reason to watch anyone being put up that claims they are from the Tea Party movement because Paulbots are all over that movement. They saw an opening a mile wide and drove right through it. Medina is a prime example.
