With early voting about to commence in the March 2 gubernatorial primaries, Gov. Rick Perry holds a commanding lead over his two Republican rivals, but he may be unable to avoid a runoff, according to a newly released poll for the Star-Telegram and other major Texas newspapers.
The survey shows Perry with 45 percent support among likely Republican voters, while 29 percent back U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Wharton County businesswoman Debra Medina had 17 percent, drawing especially strong support from the Fort Worth metropolitan region, where she is running ahead of Hutchison but behind Perry.
Perry leads Hutchison 40 percent to 20 percent in the three-county Fort Worth region, with Medina running second with 26 percent in the heavily Republican area.

Hmmm—Debra is back up a bit.
Medina might have had a chance until Glenn Beck got a hold of her... :-)
I was thinking about voting for Medina until she said that there were legitimate questions about the US gov being involoved in 911. Forget her.
You get more than 40. no run-off
If Medina didn’t turn out to be a troofer she might have come in 2nd and forced Perry into a run-off!!
or is that 45%?
I have to admit that I’m not really up to speed on the hows and whys of this primary?
What were Kay Bailey-Hutchison’s reasons for running against Rick Perry?
Was it personal? Was it ideological? On the latter issue, Perry seems to have been quite conservative on most issues.
Anyone wanna take a stab at this?
Rightly so. Anyone that thinks that is unfit to lead. Period!
From the article: However, the survey was concluded before Medina stirred controversy on Thursday in a national radio interview.
In other words, it was taken before she blew up her campaign.
My thoughts is being governor would be closer to becoming president?
Or at least it would be a more relaxing job. I imagine running back and forth to DC is getting the old gal tired.
It would help her if she wast a darling at Infowars and Prison Planet

No, nothing will help a 9-11 truther.
she wants to be governor of this great state i think she has white house ambitions down the road......but no the people of this great state will stop that RINO.......
It’s Perry all the way.......
That's not true, however, as 60 police officers were killed.
OOPS! Didn’t read that far. Well—time will tell I guess.
50% +1 is required in the primary or there is a runoff. The general is winner take all regardless of the size of the victory.
Bump!!
I listened to the interview. It seems to me that he lobbed her a softball. When she failed to hit it; he put it on a tee for her. She then failed to hit it off the tee — she didn't even get close. She did this to herself.
The truly unnerving thing is that it seems no one — no one in the media, and no one in the GOP — thought to ask such simple questions before Beck. Was she vetted at all, in any way?
I think governor has been on her radar for a long time. She wanted to run against him in 06 but was persuaded by powers that be not to in the thought that Perry wouldn’t run again after being gov. for 10 years. Perry didn’t follow that senario and is in the race again. At KBH’s age, 66 I believe, I think with her two small children she wants to get back to Texas and eliminate the weekly commute to DC leaving on Monday evening and returning on late Thrusday night. JMO. If she loses I don’t know if she’ll resign as she orginally said but I don’t think she’ll run again.
I don’t understand why she just doesn’t retire and get a lobbying/consulting job and spend the time with her children.
