He’s attacking the troop, not unlike telling the son his parents do not love him.
Maher is ridiculing the patriotic and emotional connection that exists between citizens and the Military, between parents and their children that serve, and the young ones that wait for their parents to return from tours of duty.
Maher’s cynicism thrives on the suffering of the Country and those that commit themselves to protecting it. He’s a parasite.
