Climategate U-turn as scientist at centre of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995

Data: Professor Phil Jones admitted his record keeping is 'not as good as it should be'

The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble ‘keeping track’ of the information.

Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.

Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organisational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.

The data is crucial to the famous ‘hockey stick graph’ used by climate change advocates to support the theory.

Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.

And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming.

The admissions will be seized on by sceptics as fresh evidence that there are serious flaws at the heart of the science of climate change and the orthodoxy that recent rises in temperature are largely man-made.

Professor Jones has been in the spotlight since he stepped down as director of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit after the leaking of emails that sceptics claim show scientists were manipulating data.

Notes to Jonathan Petre:

(1)Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.

It isn't paper that was being asked for by the FOIA requests, it was the digitized raw data in that "central database" you mention...data which by the way ol' Phil HAS shared with "friendly" peers, just not critical ones. So the "my office ate my homework" excuse doesn't cut it.

(2)He also agreed that there had been two periods which experienced similar warming, from 1910 to 1940 and from 1975 to 1998, but said these could be explained by natural phenomena whereas more recent warming could not.

He further admitted that in the last 15 years there had been no ‘statistically significant’ warming, although he argued this was a blip rather than the long-term trend.

It is precisely that 1975 to 1998 period that the AGW crowd points to as proving man-made warming. If there hasn't been "any statistically significant warming" since 1998 ("the last 15 years"), then there isn't any "more recent warming" that needs explaining. Your statements here make no sense whatsoever, Jonathan. This whole article seems a collection of whiny excuses, wrapped in sloppy, sycophantic journalistic drivel.

Whether the MSM reports it or not, it is a fact and the people will find out. If the MSM continues to bury it, they are only burying what little credibility they have left.

By not reporting this story the MSM become increasingly irrelevant.

he may have actually lost the relevant papers

"The dog ate them. No, really."

This is the same high degree of scholarly discipline that led to the firing of Michael Bellesiles ("Arming America") from Emory University. Good job, Dr. Jones. Your lies and deceit nearly destroyed the world's economy and caused billions of people to live poorer, harder lives. You get a spot in the dictionary beside Trofim Lysenko and Charles Dawson (Piltdown Man). You should be so proud of yourself.

The left has been trying hard to infiltrate scientific discipline since mid 80’s, having completely conquered most of humanity and social sciences. Ecology, environmental sciences, and climate sciences have been first priority targets. Many hard science are also under constant pressure to conform to liberal agendas.

On an IRS audit, “the dog ate my homework” excuse doesn’t work. In order to prove to the government that you have a tax deduction that lowers your taxes, good records are required. In order to prove to our government a theory designed to have us shell out billions, no records are required.

Worth repeating in bold.

“US media” IN USA Today yesterday there was another tedious article about combating global warming without mentioning the Climate-gate controversy. McPaper is one of the worst represenatives of lib Big Media's denial of the controversy.

How convenient. This "professor" must think we're as gullible as the mush-headed students he indoctrinates every semester. Sorry professor, nobody believes your lame BS story.

I think we might see some huge lawsuits from Gore’s backers and others who invested heavily in carbon trading.

Been that way for a long, long time. Remember how the media parroted the Ice Age scares in the 1970's.[?]

Yes, but it's gone downhill since then.

The US media's slow and steady transformation from a Free Press, into a state-controlled propaganda agency is now nearly complete.

Today, they're not simply parroting the government line, they're actively engaged in shaping the desired public perception and awareness (or lack thereof) of world events.

In short, they're not just dupes for the gov't anymore. They're now active cohorts and co-conspirators.

The Obamanation's EPA has no intention of slowing it's attack on America and will continue to ignore the evidence. Methinks Zero's financiers have too much invested in carbon credits to let it go away.
