Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is as green as any governor, from promoting alternative fuels to imposing carbon limits on California to fight climate change.
But even he's had enough of the mindless interference with development that characterizes the actions of many environmentalists. In a state where one out of eight workers is unemployed, Mr. Schwarzenegger is asking the legislature for more authority to fast-track projects after they have undergone an environmental impact study.
"Right now the way it's written, a lot of those laws, it's an invitation to misuse them," he told reporters last week. "And it holds up projects for too long a period of time, especially now."
Mr. Schwarzenegger singled out environmental obstacles that are blocking construction of alternative energy farms in the Mojave Desert. Some of his green allies have become "fanatics," he said, and "go overboard." He then launched an extended riff explaining why he thought environmental objections to the Mojave Desert projects on the grounds they could hurt endangered species were, well, specious.
"So the environmentalists . . . are confused because they want to have renewable energy but then when it comes to the permitting process, creating that renewable energy and building the solar plants, they are then in the way. And they then talk about, 'You cannot go and destroy this squirrel.'"
"I say, 'What squirrel? I was out there, I didn't see a squirrel.'
"They say, 'Well, there could be a squirrel coming very soon.'
"So I say, 'But there's no squirrel there right now.'
"'But you've got to protect things that could be there.'"

Too little, too late, Ahnuld. STFU and go away.
A little late in the game aren’t you, girly man?
“The green movement is about destroying private property not about protecting squirrels. The fools that think is is about protecting wildlife are useful idiots.”
The same of course being true about cap and trade/global warming junk science.
It’s all about command and control.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is as green as any governor
Yes he is. He flies a private jet to and from Sacramento and likes to tell others what they need to do to save the environment.
LOL!!!
Then, Ahnold, you can start by pumping water from the San Joaquin Delta to the farmers in the valley, so we can all eat American-grown food.
He should not be able to circumvent the law if no one else is able

I see a Monty Python in this :-)
Sometimes Arnie gets it right. This needs to be brought up more often. The Democrats keep telling us that investing and creating green technology will rev up the economy and create jobs. But the eco-nazis themselves stand in the way of that ever happening.
The insanity of all this is breathtaking...People are in food lines on the west side of the valley but we must protect the delta smelt....It’s like being in Alice in Wonderland...
The solution is called “loser pays”. Works in England. If these people who hold things up had to pay for the hold up if they lost, most would never press the issue in the first place.
Arnold gets it right for once.
The green movement is about destroying US.

Arne you ignorant slut, they ARE NOT ENVIROMENTALISTS! THEY ARE ANTI-CAPITALISTS! Just like certain religious groups can’t stand that someone, somewhere might be having an orgasm, these asshats cannot stand that someone, somewhere might be making a profit!
BOOM-BOOM-BOOMBOOMBOOM ... BOOM-BOOM-BOOMBOOMBOOM
Has he “cleared it with Maria”? FDR used to talk about “clearing it with Sidney”, a labor boss.
.
Correct.
Here is the newest backdoor scheme to remove potential energy production lands in California and the West from development:
A document recently obtained from the DOI indicates the Obama Administration is considering a flurry of new national monument designations in the near future. The document mentions designations and land acquisitions in 11 different western states: Utah, Montana, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Alaska, and Wyoming. As many as 13 million acres of land (possibly more) are at risk for potential designation. Coincidentally, nearly every one of these proposed designations involve areas with energy potential.
Designations are declared by the President under he 1906 Antiquities Act. This Act was designed to protect small areas of land and specific items of archeological, scientific, or historic importance which were in imminent danger of destruction. The legislation instructs the President to reserve the smallest area compatible with the proper care and management of the objects to be protected. During initial debate on the Act, the argument was whether to allow the maximum designation to be 320 or 640 acres.
President Clinton abused the Act 22 times to designate nearly 5.9 million acres of federal land as national monuments. Many of these designations far exceeded the smallest area compatible to preserve the resource and nearly all were designated without any public input or consultation with state and local officials.
One infamous designation was the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah. The Utah delegation was not informed of the designation until the day before the announcement. This designation robbed nearly $2 billion from Utahs schoolchildren because rich coal deposits within the monument could not be developed. It also robbed the State of Utah and Federal government of nearly $315 billion worth of coal and coal-bed methane resources, along with $1.1 billion of oil, gas, and nonfuel minerals.
These designations are just one more example of a renewed War on the West that would public limit access,
reduce domestic energy production, ignore basic property rights, and impede job creation in Western states.
Proposed new designations: San Rafael Swell, UT; Montana’s Northern Prairie, MT; Lesser Prairie Chicken Preserve, NM; Baryessa Snow Mt., CA; Heart of Great Basin, NV; Otero Mesa, NM; NW Sonora Desert, AZ; Owyhee Desert, OR/NV; Cascade-Siskiyou Expansion, OR/CA; Vermillion Basin, CO; Bodie Hills, CA; Modoc Plateau, CA; Cedar Mesa Region, UT; San Juan Islands, WA; Bristol Bay region, AK; Teshetpuk Lake, AK; Red Desert. WY; Alpine Triangle, CO; Upper Missouri River, MT; Pioneer Range, ID; John Day River, OR; Upper Green River Valley, WY; National Historic and Scenic Trails and conolidation of cxheckerboard lands (various states.)
