Interview with Sarah Palin (Palin *NOT* for Amnesty)
Univision ^ | October 26, 2008 | Univision

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

And there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens who are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.

One more time: What does that mean? What are these "humane ways"? What rules? If they follow these unspoken "rules," they get to stay, right?

If you were not aware of this interview, you were not following the 2008 election very closely. As some of the FReepers have stated, you obviously missed Palin’s recent interviews with Rush Limbaugh and Lars Larson, when - not a part of the McCain ticket - was directly asked the question and can out strongly against amnesty (”Illegal means just that ... illegal”) It’s funny how many Palin-bashers “haven’t decided on a candidate.” Just saying!

From my neck of the woods, that's called flip-flopping. It's wrong when Kerry does it, and it's wrong when we do it. She was for it with McCain, then against it now.

Not even Obama (or Bush, Palin, and McCain) state they are for amnesty. They know this is political death. Instead, they use "path to citizenship" as their euphemism.

Well, it's true that "path to citizenship" IS a euphemism for "I'll stall until I get a handle on this political hot potato".

Too bad President George Bush felt it unnecessary to properly and constitutionally address it once and for all on 9/12/2001.

Well .. I’ve heard her say that she’s for LEGAL immigration .. but I’ve never heard one of her speeches make any remarks regarding amnesty. If she had .. I would have already been out of here as far as she’s concerned.

I know McCain wants amnesty .. but to make that conditional on her wanting Amnesty .. I don’t read that in her statement at all. “... a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants ...” does not mean she’s for Amnesty. It means she’s for CITIZENSHIP. But .. I have heard her say, “What is it about ILLEGAL that people don’t understand?”

And .. I don’t give a rip if anybody agrees with me or not .. so don’t bother arguing with me. You can have your opinion .. and I can have mine!

Cut off benefits and they will leave. Tell them in 6 months the benefits end.

What I posted is the View of Sarah Palin.

What the Palin basher is trying to push are parts of comments Sarah made when she was the VP candidate.

The head of the ticket is the one whose policy is followed on the campaign trail, thus the remarks.
This is the way campaigns have run from the start.

Sarah is not under the yoke of anyone and can freely state
her views.

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty.

That's tantamount to a woman being a little bit pregnant.

You know, people have got to follow the rules.

That's right! We already have rules that requires foreigners to fill out the appropriate paper work at a U.S. embassy and wait in line as do thousands of others who have done so in some cases for years. Anyone who enters the country illegally must be deported. The current immigration laws do not need to be altered, modified or reformed. Doing so will only reward those who have knowingly and willingly violated our laws.

And which war did you fight in? I was there and saw the news that came from what we did versus what actually happened. So, until you know, don’t comment. It makes you look very, very foolish.

You can only feel betrayed after she commits allowing them to stay as she has stated. By then it will be too late.

Like most of us I'd rather a more definitive definition of "pathway to citizenship" from Palin or any other pol. I'm sick of the parsing regarding what should be an easy call.

You are the Party Chairman for the Alan Keyes Presidential run of 2008 against Palin and McCain, and you will be in the same role for the 2012 race against her, and we aren’t supposed to know that you have a horse in this thread?

Every time I see you on a thread you seem like your shorts are starched a bit much.
I don’t care what you think. The person you are a paid supporter of leaves you as a non player.

Do you not want any of these people to become citizens?

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner! Was nobody paying attention to what happened after the last amnesty?

These people chose to enter the country surreptitiously in disregard of our laws. Don't need cattle cars. Just prosecute the criminals who hire them, and cut off social benefits. They'll self-deport. We already have a pathway to citizenship - they are free to return home and apply.

What do you propose we do; just tell 15 million Mexicans to go home?

It won't be necessary to physically remove all illegals. Many will leave voluntarily once they get tired of being hunted down constantly by strictly enforcing existing immigration laws. Oklahoma passed their own strict immigration laws a few years ago and within a short period of time many illegals left of their own accord. The same can happen with federal laws.

From their own words. Have you visited? Nope. So take it from somebody who has and from those (the interpreters that worked for us) who grew up there. Can you comment on those from a state you’ve never been to? It’s even more radically different when opining from half way around the globe.

Exactly! That would be inhumane by Palin’s standard.
